Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Living Sculpture Slenderina® Weeping Blue Spruce

Fine art and garden design have a lot in common. Beyond the fundamentals of line, color, and shape — great visual art can and should evoke certain feelings as you view it!

This tree is a magnificent canvas that is waiting to whisper secrets to you. Lose yourself studying the intricate charm of Slenderina® Weeping Blue Spruce Tree (Picea pungens 'Glauca Slenderina Pendula').

Our skillful growers have carefully trained this magnificent columnar specimen into a lavish, weeping showpiece. Years of expert care go into the development and care of these special Slenderinas® trees.

With the same famous glaucous blue needles of its Colorado Blue Spruce cousin, Slenderina® delivers amazing, steady color all growing season long. Evergreens bring structure and year-round color to your landscape!

But unlike its uniform cousin, Slenderina® has a wild and wonderful twisting, turning branch structure. No two trees are alike!

Pendulous branches sigh and droop downwards from the strong central leader. Some branches grow outwards first, then fall like the others.

These specialty trees are sure to tickle your fancy! Treat them as three-dimensional living art and you'll never grow tired of them.

Both ponderous and graceful, Slenderina® has a story to tell, so she deserves a special place of honor. You'll want to study the contrast of the strong, short needles and the seeming fragility of the branches.

Perfect for cold winters in New England and USDA hardiness zones 3 to 7, the silvery blue needle cast won't fade or bronze in the harshest winters or hottest summers.

How to Use Slenderina® Weeping Blue Spruce in the Landscape

Turn a portion of your landscape into an art gallery with a Slenderina® to a special collection of weeping specimen trees by creating generous rows or on raised berms.

Gift one Slenderina® Weeping Blue Spruce and one Bruns Weeping Serbian Spruce to a newlywed couple with a sly sense of humor. Planted as a matched set, they would make a noteworthy representation of an "old married couple", wouldn't they?

Use a single tree as a vertical specimen and allow enough room for the lower branches to drape and creep along the ground for the best effect.

These exceptional trees are grown on a stake to support the central leader into an erect position. If you desire, you can keep it growing this way, or encourage the top of the tree to fold over by simply neglecting to tie the new growth to the stake. Remove that stake completely, if you'd like to see a more prostrate effect.

Use this trait to your fullest advantage by planting this stunning tree at the top of a retaining wall or slope. The lowest branches will continue to grow downwards, softening the edges of your hardscape with a brilliant carpet of glaucous, powder-blue.

You can also follow our lead, and tie the new growth to the stake as it grows for a more vertical tree. If you love this look, why not leverage several of these trees to create an outstanding backdrop? Plant three Slenderinas® in a semi-circle around a stone sculpture or garden bench.

Slenderina® is a perfect accent for a memorial stone. Add a bench so you can easily spend time there, remembering your loved ones.

  • Distinctive Powder-Blue Needles

#ProPlantTips for Care

Spruce trees need minimal care, just give them well-drained soil and full sun. It loves all-day sunlight but needs at least six hours of sunshine a day.

While your tree is young, supply a moderate amount of water regularly. After its root system is established in your soil, Spruce trees easily tolerate periodic drought. However, we recommend you protect your investment with supplemental water during extended drought or high heat.

A 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist wood mulch, spread out around the root system, helps reduce surface evaporation, but avoid having the mulch directly touching the tree.

Give Slenderina® a long drink of water In late fall, especially in the coldest growing zones. Evergreens need good hydration in their needles to avoid winter damage.

Pruning is usually not necessary. Correct as needed in the winter or early spring before it begins to grow the luxuriant new growth.

Stake your tree when young to ensure the straightest trunk possible if that is the look you are going for.

  • Full Sun Evergreen Tree
  • Well-Drained Soil - Any Soil Type
  • Moderate Moisture
  • Long-Lived & Easy Care
  • Extremely Cold Tolerant
  • Deer Seem to Leave Them Alone
  • Few Pests & Diseases
