What garden can be complete without a Rose? The brilliant colors, silky-soft petals, and heavenly scent are the substance of poetry, songs, and legend. No flower is more studied or beloved than the Rose, and the Hansa is a Rose that should not be missed. The Hansa Hybrid Rugosa Shrub Rose (Rosa rugosa 'Hansa') blooms all summer long. Plant one as a specimen plant in a perennial bed or several as a stunning summer hedge.

The big, double blooms are in a radiant deep cerise pink and each velvety petal is delightfully ruffled! If you want a Rose bush with incredible flowers, fragrance, and a hardy nature, then you can't do better than an old-fashioned Shrub Rose. Many Rose enthusiasts prefer the fussier Tea Rose plants because of their larger blooms, but your Hansa Rose has sizable flouncy flowers.

The ultra-fragrant, double blooms can reach a diameter of four inches and will cover your plant from early summer until fall. The dramatic purple-fuchsia color and heavy blooms will certainly draw you in for a closer look. Lean forward until the delicate yellow centers peek at you, and draw in the sweet-spicy fragrance to experience a moment of natural harmony.

This is an upright-growing, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub. It's a vigorous grower and its leaves will even contribute to the fall landscape when they transform to a comely orange hue, and the red hips will accent the colorful show as well!

In addition to all your Hansa Rose has to offer, it's also winter hardy, disease resistant, and tolerant of a variety of soils. You simply can't go wrong with a Hansa Rose! Rugosa Roses are synonymous with cold-hardiness and Hansa is no different. Thriving from USDA zones 3 through 7, these are highly adaptable and easy-going plants for a carefree landscape!

Planting and Application:

These are fantastic forms of the hardy native Rugosa Rose and retain that rugged nature. They also have the impenetrable thorns of the family that keep unwanted visitors out of your garden! Fantastic hedges and privacy row additions, and flowering screens that protect your landscape!

While helping keep deer out of your yard, Rugosa Roses are favorites for songbirds and wildlife! Create groupings that are bird-friendly motels and nesting sites, while also becoming a boon to nectar-hungry honeybees and butterflies that will seek out these blooms all growing season! In the fall, the rosehips that form again feed your local birds and migrating birds on their way south for the winter!

Ideal backdrops for your Cottage borders, perennial beds, and Rose gardens alike! A great addition to mixed-shrub borders and softening the corner of an informal planting or garage. Slow the wind, and block drifting snow while creating shelterbelts along your driveway or sidewalk with beautiful raspberry-pink blooms. Don't worry about salt spray from the road, Rugosa Roses are salt tolerant!

A single shrub makes a great specimen and focal point for filling garden beds and Rock Gardens with ruffled bright pops of color and lush green foliage! Smaller pruned shrubs can even be kept in large outdoor planters with ease!

  • Big Ruffled Cerise-Pink Blooms
  • Large Double Flowers
  • Very Fragrant Flowers
  • Showy Orange Rosehips in Fall
  • Pollinator & Bird Friendly
  • Makes Dense Privacy, Backdrop, Specimen & Wildlife Hedge
