We love plants that bring big color to small spaces and do it with ease and charm! The Purple Pixie® Weeping Fringe Flower (Loropetalum chinense 'Peack') from Southern Living Plants® is that kind of lovely flowering broadleaf evergreen shrub! Your bees, butterflies, and Hummingbirds will appreciate the unique tasseled hot pink blooms that show off this shrubs Witch Hazel family connection!
Purple Pixie® Weeping Loropetalum is a low-growing but lushly colored plant with its burgundy evergreen leaves and hot pink fringy flowers that bloom sporadically all year long. You can use it as a groundcover where it will spread 5-feet wide but only grows 1-foot tall. Maintaining its naturally neat shape and fullness without all the pruning!
Purple Pixie® keeps its purple leaves all year round and definitely livens up any garden space, whether you have a large garden or a small one. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 10, these shrubs are deer resistant, low-maintenance, long-lived, and highly pest and disease-resistant.
Planting and Application:
Plant the dwarf Fringe Flower shrub where you want some fun drama. As fancy edging or groupings by front porch stairs or as a low focal point around the driveway entrance, let these weeping plants spill and ramble along the edges of the sidewalk or a garden pathway for a pretty effect! Let this weeping ornamental soften the edges of a stone wall by pouring over the top.
Weeping Fringe Flower bushes will easily fill a small to medium-sized container anywhere in the sun to partially shady porch or patio! Use these as gorgeous ornamentals around seating areas and pool seating for a fun conversation piece! Plant it in a window box where it will cascade out and be at eye level to enjoy the funky flowers.
Purple Pixie® is fantastic on its own but try pairing it with other hardy perennials, mix with evergreen shrubs and trees, or as an accent in a mixed container. The deeply colored leaves look especially good with chartreuse-leaved plants or white flowered plants. The year-round leaf color melds with purples and lavenders, pinks and creams, and deep burgundy or maroon flowering plants beautifully!
- Rich Dark Purple-Colored Foliage Year-Round

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Sometimes spelled one word Fringeflower, and sometimes known as Chinese Fringe Flower, these easy to grow shrubs perform best in moist fertile soil that is well-drained. Thriving in partial shade, but will tolerate full sun in the coolest of its favored Hardiness Zones. You'll enjoy the most flowering in more sun.
Apply a fertilizer for acid-loving plants, such as Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Organic and Natural Fertilizer twice a year in early spring and mid-summer, or according to the directions. The root systems will appreciate a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch, pine straw, or pine bark. Just be sure to pull it back so it is not touching the stems.
Give a moderate amount of water on a consistent schedule. Use the Finger Test to determine the frequency … poke your finger into the soil to see if it is starting to get dry. Once established, Loropetalum can be very drought tolerant.
Prune to shape your Chinese Loropetalum sparsely and only after the main flush of blooms is done. You'll likely see sporadic reblooming through the summer months. Every 3-5 years, renewal prune to keep these long-lived shrubs growing vigorous, and beautiful.
- Grows in Full Sun or Partial Shade
- Somewhat Acidic Well-Drained Soil
- Regular Average Moisture
- Blooms On Old Wood - Prune After Flowering
- Displays Great Pest Resistance
- Deer Rarely Damage This Plant!
