Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Yellow Hollyhocks (Alcea 'Yellow') are elegant embodiments of sunshine! These biennials start as rosettes of fan-shaped green leaves and then the following year shoot up a tall 4-8 foot spire of golden pompoms! These double blooms look like chiffon party dresses that form all along each sturdy stem!

Those mounds of foliage grow 24-36 inches wide and look great from spring til frost! In addition to the amazing array of beneficial pollinators and beneficial insects that drop by these blooms, the leaves support the lifecycle of painted lady Butterflies as a host plant for their caterpillars!

Yellow Hollyhocks are very cold-hardy biennials throughout USDA growing zones 2 through 8. While short-lived, the sprouts coming up from the roots, and the seeds of some varieties come back year after year!

Planting and Application:

A classic cottage garden staple, the tall and elegant spires full of long-lasting blooms, any back border in any garden will become enhanced by these ruffled pompoms! The Yellow Hollyhocks will be smothered in bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects! Even Hummingbirds drop by for a visit! These Mallow-like leaves look great even when the rosettes are not in bloom!

Yellow Hollyhocks add bright visual interest and vertical color to your garden beds and borders in the sun! Dress up a boring wall or fenceline, and add height by grouping these hardy roots together for maximum impact in the perennial garden, Rose garden, or Cut Flower Border!

  • Tall Spires of Sunny Yellow Double Blooms
  • Long-Lasting Blooms
  • Green Fan-Shaped Leaves
  • Major Pollinator Magnet & Hummingbirds Galore!
  • Back-of-the-Border, Vertical Interest, Cottage & Space-Saving Gardens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Biennial Hollyhocks need full sun to grow best. Plant in a well-drained location that is protected due to its height. They may need to be protected from wind and heavy rain, so provide support from stakes, against a fence or wall for protection. Hollyhocks may self-seed, so deadhead right after blooms fade. Clean mounds in late fall after the frost kills back the foliage.

  • Full Sun
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Type
  • Moderate Regular Moisture
  • Prune After Frost
  • Tolerates Black Walnut Tree Juglone & Deer Resistant

Yellow Hollyhocks are going to be your new favorite vertical rays of sunshine! Double blooms and pollinators galore, hurry and order your own bareroot biennial blooms today at NatureHills.com!
