Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 4-8
This tall ornamental tree makes an impressive focal point near a water feature. Yellow Buckeye (Aesculus flava (formerly Aesculus octandra)) is an exceptional native plant that delivers a beautiful spring bloom!
You won't believe your eyes! Large, 7-inch tall upright-growing yellow flowering panicles cover the oval canopy and bring butterflies and hummingbirds.
Yellow Buckeye also features very attractive, pinnately compound leaves. Five elliptical leaflets are held on a single petiole and are boldly textured from a strong midrib. Lustrous and dark green all summer long!
This tree gives an impression of strength. As the tree ages, the gray bark develops a distinctive texture and the caliper of the trunk expands wide. The flowers transform into smooth fruit that contains shiny brown seeds. Perhaps you carried one or more in your pocket as a child to bring you good luck. Or you can leave them to the wildlife that depend on the autumn bounty!
As the temperatures start to dip in fall, Yellow Buckeye delivers another phenomenal ornamental display. Enjoy watching the setting sun spotlight the glowing leaves, which develop a range of fiery hues, from orange to bronze ... to golden-yellow!
Landscape Application:
The foliage of Yellow Buckeye casts a very refreshing shade! Keep your home cool and your hammock stand at the ready with one on the southwest corner of your lot.
Keep it in a mulched garden bed or on a raised berm in your front lawn, and underplant with spring-flowering Daffodils for a welcome burst of color as winter draws to an end each year. Add shade-loving plants from our extensive online catalog, and create a very restful oasis all season.
Use this tree on large properties as part of a native collection. Or, consider naturalizing this beautiful choice along a stream bed where they can soak up the extra moisture. The Yellow Buckeye makes an exceptional accent tree in the landscape and is beneficial to wildlife and pollinators in your area!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
A North American native, the Yellow Buckeye grows best along stream beds in full sun or partial shade in more average moisture sites They do prefer to be planted in moist, well-drained rich soil with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around their root zone. Prune after flowering should you need to shape, but major pruning should be done when dormant. These hardy natives are not susceptible to many foliage diseases, resist leaf scorch, nor need much in the way of maintenance! Plus these trees are wonderfully urban environment tolerant!
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Well-Drained Rich Soil
- Like Higher Moisture & Average Moisture Conditions
- Prune After Flowering
- Resists Leaf Scorch
