Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 5-9
Elegant growth and colors, and just simply stunning! There is no better way to describe the Worplesdon Sweetgum Tree (Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon'). Worplesdon Sweetgum has a pyramid shape that is clean cut and makes for a fabulous privacy screen for a backyard or a perfect shade tree throughout the warmer seasons.
In the fall, this tree is what everyone goes crazy about after seeing its red, purple, and yellow fall foliage that will illuminate your whole landscaping. It's fall colors will warm your heart in the chilly months. The persistent seedpods look like spikey little round ornaments that songbirds and wildlife adore for their seeds.
Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, Sweetgum are cold-hardy and heat tolerant, showing off its incredible fall color despite the heat of the southern growing zones. Highly adaptable cultivar of the resilient native tree, Worplesdon is a bit smaller than its native cousins.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant your Worplesdon Sweetgum in full sun with well-drained soil to allow it to grow to its mature size of 40 feet tall and 25 feet wide. These tough, native trees tolerate many soil conditions exceptionally well, including salt, alkaline, and clay. Its favorite soil is well-drained, moist, and slightly acidic. However, it is adaptable to average soils that drain well and can tolerate wetter soils and periodic drought for a short time.
Establish your tree with careful watering. Thereafter, water regularly to protect your investment. Apply a 3-4 inch deep layer of pine bark or pine straw mulch to young trees, and spread it three feet outside the canopy. Spread the mulch out further for mature trees to keep the spiked seedpods from getting into the lawn.
You will find that your Worplesdon has such a great form you will need to do little or no pruning, but if you do give it a trim, do so in the spring to avoid having the sap run and make a sticky mess. You'll want to give your tree the attention it deserves too!
