Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Large pink and yellow striped edible fruit, the one-of-a-kind Whitney Crabapple Tree (Malus 'Whitney') is a flowering crabapple with fruit that is perfect for fresh eating! Crispy, juicy and puckeringly tart, you’ll enjoy the small fruit for canning, sauces and cooking!

The pinkish buds burst into gorgeous drifts of white blooms that pollinators adore! Soon the two-bite apples form among the green foliage and are ready for harvesting in late summer to early fall.

Whitney crabapples have been used to juice and make cider, even hard cider since this tree was found in Illinois in the 1860s. An heirloom gem that’s as ornamental as it is tasty, the smaller size, self-pollinating properties, and easy-going nature of this tree make it ideal for Edible Landscaping.

Planting and Application:

A lovely flowering specimen and focal point, these trees are as perfect in the front yard as they are gracing a side yard or back patio. Be sure to situate yours so you can watch the spring display and keep tabs on your harvest as it grows. Anchor and shade garden beds or accent the corner of your home’s foundation plantings with these flowering fruit trees!

Whitney Crabapple can be kept pruned as small as needed to accommodate any sized yard. For something very unique, train your tree into an Espalier for a space-saving conversation piece, or keep it pruned tiny for containers and large planters! Of course, a single specimen letting white petals flutter all around would boost curb appeal when planted near your front entry!

  • Clouds of White Blossoms
  • Small Size & Lush Green Foliage
  • Small Edible Sweet-Tart Fruit
  • Jam, Cider, Baked Goods & Fresh Eating
  • Pollinator & Wildlife Tree

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Crabapple trees flower the best in full sun, so provide your tree at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant in a moderately moist, well-drained location that’s fertile and organic. A thick layer of mulch helps hold in moisture and insulate the roots of these cold-hardy trees!

  • Full Sun
  • Well-Drained Moist & Enriched Soil
  • Self-Pollinating
  • 700-900 Chill Hours
  • Easy Care
