Peach Tree Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for White Lady Peach Trees to bear fruit?
Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect a young peach tree to begin fruiting by the 3rd year after you plant it.
How Fast Do White Lady Peach Trees Grow?
Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your White Lady (Prunus persica 'White Lady') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.
Where do White Lady Peach Trees Grow Best?
Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.
Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?
All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!
Harvest Times for White Lady Peach Trees
White Ladys are typically ready to harvest in July to August. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.
Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.
When Should White Lady Peach Tree be Planted?
Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.
- Plant bareroot peach trees in the early spring.
- Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.

Beautiful, Sweet, Highly Adaptable Improved Peach
White Lady Peach is one of the early introductions by the world acclaimed Floyd Zaiger. Zaiger is best known for his work with interspecific hybrids, specifically the Plum Apricot crosses called Pluot's and Aprium's. His work has been heavily influenced by Luther Burbank.
Zaiger began hybridizing plants by crossing varieties of Azaleas and Rhododendrons in the early 1950's. At this time, he was in search of heat tolerant selections that would do well in the Central Valley of California.
Zaiger's work came to the attention of Fred Anderson, a well know fruit breeder of the time, often referred to as the father of the Nectarine. Anderson actually started his career as an assistant to the world renown plant breeder Luther Burbank, so there was another connection.
Anderson liked the work that Floyd was doing and offered him a job as a plant breeder. This began his life-long fascination with fruit hybridization.
The White Lady is an early successful Zaiger hybridizations and is known as a 'Sub Acid' fruit. At its introduction in 1985, White Lady was noted for its great size, flavor and red blush skin color. It's most memorable feature was the lack of acid. White Lady Peach is a mild flavored fruit that was very sweet when still eaten firm. 'Sub Acid' would remain a focus of Zaigers hybridizations.
White Lady Peach resulted from the combination of several different well-known varieties of fruit. A first-generation seedling, it came one tree that was a cross of O'Henry and Giant Babcock pollinated by another tree that was a cross of May Grande Nectarine and Sam Houston Peach.
It has proved to be widely adaptable and is planted it all peach growing regions throughout the United States today. You'll love the White Lady Peach!
