Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability

The Variegated Yucca, (Yucca x gloriosa 'Variegata') is a fantastically showy evergreen shrub with loads of architectural texture and eye-catching form! Also aptly named Spanish Dagger Yucca, these form symmetrically aesthetic fountains of stiff sword-like leaves.
Boasting lengthwise stripes of many shades of soft blue-greens and gray-greens and highlighted by creamy-yellow edges that mature into creamy-white margins! Standing tall at the top, then fanning out and down as they grow.
Hardy natives to the Southeastern US, Yucca attract hummingbirds and pollinators when the tall flower spikes appear, loaded with rows of nodding bell-shaped, creamy white flowers that are loaded with nectar!
Adding immense amounts of texture and visual appeal, these are also heat and drought-tolerant plants. The serrated, toothy and spine-tipped leaves deter the deer and rabbits and are virtually pest and problem-free!
How to Use Variegated Yucca In The Landscape
With texture and structure like this cactus-like plant has, it deserves to be in the front and center of your attention! An eye-catching specimen and focal point, display this beauty where it can take the spotlight. Highlight on a berm or display in its own urn for a real focal point standing out from the rest.
Use as structural, architectural rows and low hedges that trespassers will think twice about crossing. The serrated, pointed leaves are a good deterrent along walkways to keep visitors on the path!
Formal courtyards and as corner anchors, or create a fantastic sight when planted alternately with other Agave or Yucca such as Color Guard or Adam’s Needle.
These look fantastic among other formal plants such as Topiary, Sedum, Foxtail Fern, Elegans Hosta, Variegated Liriope, and Ornamental Grasses.
These would look terrific as a thriller in larger containers on your back patio. Or, make a statement and showcase a quirky sense of humor by using one on either side of your front door or as a pair of sentries standing at the entrance of your drive. Everyone will definitely remember your house! Place the containers so people have plenty of room to move past them.
#ProPlantTips For Care
Growing to a spikey mound 2-4 feet tall and wide, these are hardy broadleaf evergreens in the United States growing zones 6 through 10.
Tolerating the full sun all day, these are low water usage plants. Plant in nearly any kind of very well-draining soil: thriving in clay, rocky, gravel or sandy soils! Even tolerant of salty coastal areas, these US natives thrive in a wide variety of conditions.
Repelling deer and rabbits, there is little you will need to worry about with these slow-growing plants! Including care for them once established! Simply prune off the spent flower stalks and remove old fronds by cutting back to the main stem in early spring!
Everyone needs some structure in their life, as well as their landscape! For yours, look no further than the incredible Variegated Yucca from NatureHills.com today!
