Dramatic contrast and sheer sophisticationIf you want a pretty landscape that shows off your good taste, rely on the Tuxedo™ Weigela (Weigela x 'Velda'). These boldly ornamental shrubs feature deliciously dark, burgundy-green foliage and brilliant white, trumpet-shaped blooms for months.
Black and white is a classic combination, and this hard-working, compact shrub represents the best of the best and keeps a neat and tidy shape without pruning. Weigela shrubs are well-known for their easy care nature, and huge improvements have been made over the last few decades in terms of size, color and repeat blooming. The serrated, pointed leaves are a perfect foil for the pristine, bell-shaped blooms that look great in bouquets.
These fragrant blooms start in summer and last well into fall. They'll absolutely cover the plant from top to bottom. And while the classy elegance of the shrub itself may be restrained in terms of color palette, the blooms entice jewel-toned Hummingbirds and butterflies to visit. Feel good about this dramatic selection. You'll gain a fabulous backdrop for entertaining, and a valuable late-season nectar source for butterflies.
The result of a top breeding program, Tuxedo™ Weigela has emerged as a strong grower with loads and loads of bright white flowers against striking foliage. The deep, burgundy-green coloration is so dramatic, the foliage is almost black in appearance!
Planting and Application:
Tuxedo™ Weigela is a versatile option to use throughout your landscape. Add several of these shrubs for a dramatic presentation. They can be grown in large containers, or in the ground!
With its black and white coloration, Tuxedo™ Weigela acts like a neutral. The shrub has a lot of impact on its own, but it truly supports any accent color you choose. Repeat their use along the length of your perennial bed or Pollinator Garden for a bold backdrop. Or, use them all on their own in a special shrub border. They make wonderful foundation shrubs against gray, white or stone-clad homes. Their multi-stemmed branching and compact habit look terrific, even in wintertime.
Add a row of hardy and decorative shrubs in high-end containers for your patio, pool deck or front porch. These work beautifully as "Thrillers". Dress them up or down! Change out your throw pillows and candles for a fresh look each season.
Add a pop of dark purple, bright magenta, or true red to your scene with smaller perennials in smaller containers, or as edging plants. Just imagine the cheerful impact bright yellows, golds and oranges would have against Tuxedo™ Weigela.
Create a gorgeous low floral hedge by planting several shrubs in a row. Stagger a double row for faster impact. To achieve this designer look, plant them two and a half feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant Weigela in full sun for the best blooming and rich foliage color. A partial shade position will result in a looser form and reduced flowering. Give it well-drained soil. Top dress with a thick layer of wood chip mulch, but please take care to ensure the mulch doesn't touch the stems directly. Plant them at least 6 feet away from structures. Plants need good air circulation, and you'll love watching the breeze play through the pretty branches.
Prune Tuxedo™ Weigela in early spring pruning after flowering by deadheading spent blooms as you like to further increase its already abundant flower production. Renew older plants by removing a third of the oldest, fattest stems all the way down to the ground. Leave the younger, thinner branches for the best bloom and a more natural form. Either way, you'll enjoy a sporadic rebloom later each summer or fall too!
- Cold Hardy in Full Sun & Part Shade
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Well-Drained Enriched Soil & Mulched Beds
- Prune After Flowering & Renewal Prune Every 3- 5 Years
- Deer Seldom Bother Them
- Requires Little Maintenance
Enjoy these marvelous shrubs in your landscape. Order Tuxedo™ Weigela, plant, and relax! It's a perfect choice. The results will always be stunning. With its sensational foliage and long-blooming flowers, it's a high-performing shrub you won't want to miss. Order Tuxedo™ Weigela from Nature Hills today!
