Growing Zones 7-9
Hot coral-pink papery blooms, reddish-tinted stems, and bright blooms of the Tuscarora Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia x 'Tuscarora') add vibrant color to the sun garden! A wonderfully rounded deciduous shrub that blooms all summer and keeps blooming right up until autumn.
Pollinators adore Crape Myrtle's crinkly terminal flower clusters, each accented with a yellow center! Backed by the glossy foliage all growing season. An excellent shrub form especially if grown in colder zones where it may die back and it can regrow each spring from the ground. In more southern areas, it is more commonly used as a single-stem tree form.
Tuscarora displays red-orange fall color followed by revealing the mottled exfoliating cinnamon-brown stems on the older branches once the deciduous foliage drops in the autumn! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 7 to 9 and grows fast to a neat and tidy 12-15 feet in height and width.
Planting and Application:
Add this wonderful Crape Myrtle variety to your landscape this year and bump up the color impact of your design. Use this very special variety to punch up the visual impact around your yard. Crape Myrtles are so easy to grow and won't attract deer, so go ahead and use them as property division hedges, in shelterbelts, beef up windbreaks, and for private outdoor garden rooms!
Tuscarora, named after the Iroquois Native American tribe, is a fantastic specimen all on its own! The big, rounded canopy shines both because of its glossy foliage, and its radiant coral pink blossoms that fill out the end of every branch! Go ahead and make Tuscarora stand out further with a bit of pruning and 'limb up' to expose the lower third of the trunks and create a multi-branched focal point tree-form!
Soften the corner of your home with one of these vivid accent trees, or highlight it on a raised front yard berm to show off for the entire neighborhood! We're sure this long-blooming shrub will boost curb appeal and become your landscape's newest crown jewel in no time because of its faster growth! You'll enjoy results in a hurry!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Also spelled Crepe Myrtle because of the crepe-papery blooms, these shrubs do best in full sun where you will enjoy the most blooms. These shrubs appreciate morning sun which dries the leaves of dew faster, but this new offering is one of the new mildew-resistant hybrids developed by the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.!
Provide new shrubs with regular moisture in a well-drained soil site, but once established, Myrtles can be highly drought-resistant. For best results, however, provide a 3-4 inch layer of arborist bark chips or mulch for moisture retention and to keep the roots cool. Prune Crape Myrtles in the early spring since they bloom on new wood.
- Full Sun Shrubs
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Appreciates Mulched Beds & Early Spring Pruning
- Deer Resistant & Higher Powdery Mildew Resistance
Tuscarora Crape Myrtle is a fantastic shrub or tree with unique coral-pink blossoms and improved resistance that will light up your landscape! Order yours today at Nature Hills Nursery!
Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!
Before you buy, make sure you know what you're getting! Single stem, multi stem and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we're currently offering below.
Single Stem:
These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.
Multi Stem:
These are plants with 3, 4, and sometimes 5 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times multi-stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.
Shrub Form:
These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
