Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Gothic spring beauties, the Paul Scherer Tulip (Tulipa species 'Paul Scherer') is an incredibly deep, dark purple that’s near black! Certain to stand out among the bright green leaves! These satiny petals are sensationally different and add drama. Fading slightly to a dark plum-purple, the tall stems add mystery to floral arrangements and containers alike!

Softly fragrant, Paul Scherer Tulips features the wide, arching green foliage and central rosette typical of the Tulip family! They carry the sweet fragrance you'd expect from a spring flowering bulb and all the incredible cold hardiness too!

Perennial bulbs are easy-care and very low maintenance, just plant them and they'll bloom every year, multiplying and forming tidy clumps and groupings on their own over time. Can be an annual in growing zones they're not hardy in.

Planting and Application:

These are dramatically dark blossoms for beds and borders in any sunny or dappled sun setting! Create large groupings throughout your perennial and cottage gardens to maximize their dark color, add unique color to rock gardens or plant in rows along gardens as edging and low border plants. They are perfect for bouquets, so include a few in your cutting gardens!

Ideal in large, protected planters where the ground won't freeze solid. Even indoors, they can be forced to bloom earlier for unique winter décor! Mix among other spring bulbs or intersperse among larger perennials and shrubs, where the later emerging foliage will shade out these tender perennials once the sun becomes too hot for them in summer.

  • Fragrant Satiny Petals
  • Dramatic Near Black - Dark Plum-Purple Blooms
  • Strappy Wide Green Foliage Rosettes
  • Cold Hardy Perennial Bulb
  • Early Spring Color in Beds, Borders & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Tulips should be planted in the fall 6 to 8 weeks before a hard freeze. Each bulb should be planted pointed end upward and at least 8 inches deep. The location should be well-drained and in full to partial sun. Tulips do not like wet soil so water only when planting if it gets very dry in the fall or during prolonged drought.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Moderate Moisture
  • Well-Drained Enriched Site
  • Deadhead After Bloom Fades
  • Dislikes Soggy Conditions
