Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 10-11 or as an indoor plant
The room-brightening Trinette Umbrella Plant (Schefflera arboricola 'Trinette') is a gorgeous array of green and creamy yellow colors that will impress both indoors and out! Also known as the Schefflera, these tropical evergreen trees can reach great heights in their native habitats around China, but this vivid creamy gold and green cultivar will keep to a neat and tidy 3-5 feet in height and smaller width.
These bushy, compact plants feature longer stems with umbrella-shaped whorls of leaves for a pinwheel effect, enhanced by the randomized green, creamy yellow to pale gold variegation on each! Featuring a dense yet bright clump of tropical broadleaf evergreen foliage. These gorgeous houseplants are super easy to care for, dwarf-sized and will never overtake a planter or interiorscape.
Grown as a fantastic single stem tree form or excellent shrub form plant, Trinette is among the other great air-purifying plants and forgives you if you forget a watering here and there. Train as a bonsai tree or use as a hedge in its favored outdoor USDA hardiness zones of 10-11! Outdoors these tropicals can produce reddish blooms!
Planting and Application:
Umbrella Plants in frost-free growing zones are fantastic shady accents and even low hedges! Accent your home's front or back landscaping with these bushy focal points, the variegation will certainly draw attention when used as foundation plantings and poolside decorations! Pot up in planters around your patio and on the covered back deck or add a touch of privacy to your balcony! These dwarf shrubs won't take up much space but have high-impact color!
Indoors, these are classic houseplants and Trinette adds the brilliance with its lovely variegation! This smaller-leaved dwarf form has a finer textured appearance when compared to regular Schefflera, but with all the ease of care and beauty as the rest of the family. Pot up in a lovely container by a bright window in your bedroom or brightening the corner of the living room to enjoy color and air purification, or on a sunroom, porch and patio as an accent to your seating areas!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Umbrella plants do best in the part shade outdoors and bright filtered/indirect light indoors to help maintain that variegated color. Tropical evergreen plants do not like overly dry conditions or frost, and avoid drafts around indoors and protect outdoor plants from frost. Prune off any sickly or poor growth, and pinch back any leggy growth to encourage bushiness and branching. Plant in a well-drained enriched environment with regular fertility and consistent moisture.
- Bright Indirect Light
- Moderate Consistent Moisture
- Regular Fertility & Enriched Well-Drained Soil
- Prune or Pinch Back Damaged, Sickly or Leggy Growth
- Rarely Bothered By Deer
Compact and radiant foliage, the Trinette Umbrella Plant enlivens your world both indoors and out with its variegated, densely growing foliage! Enjoy the ease of care tropical greenery accents and living décor delivered, from NatureHills.com!
