Plant Taiwan Creeping Raspberry (Rubus hayata-koidzumii) for an attractive series of ornamental features throughout the year. Let these creepers spread to soften edges, and you'll be rewarded with textured foliage.
Thick leaves are leathery and coarse-textured. But they are quite charming, with their rounded lobes and slightly ruffled margins.
Look close for the endearing white flowers. Each multi-petaled bloom is decorated underneath with frosted star-shaped sepals.
Butterflies and beneficial pollinators love these tiny nectar-rich blooms. But deer don't care for this durable variety, and tend to steer clear of the incurved brambles along the red stems.
Watch as the flowers develop into an eye-catching crop of berries that color change from gold to red by the autumn. Wildcraft these creeping raspberry fruits, ranging in color from yellow to salmon and red, or leave them for the local squirrels and chipmunks.
The crinkled leaves also deliver a fall color display. Although the leaves are evergreen, they'll deepen from their dark green summer cloak into a pretty red blush that remains on the plant all winter.
Taiwan Creeping Raspberry is a tough, attractive groundcover that adds a lot of character to your landscape. Order yours today, and you'll be well on your way to enjoying a lush mat of colorful, cute foliage, flowers and fruit!
How to Use Taiwan Creeping Raspberry in the Landscape
If you have a slope on your property, weave Taiwan Creeping Raspberry near the lower edges. They will cascade down and cover bare ground for you.
Plant this crinkle leaf creeper at the top of retaining walls, and let them spill over the edge. You'll create an amazing garden feature out of an eyesore!
Mass plantings on well-drained soil are as simple as planting in a checkerboard pattern spaced every 40 inches. Place mulch between the plants and weed as needed until your Taiwan Creeping Raspberries touch.
Achieve a very modern look with a full, lush planting bed filled with Taiwan Creeping Raspberry. Use one or more of our specialty evergreen trees as a focal point, skirted with this treasured groundcover.
Due to their sprawling growth habit, you can also leverage Taiwan Creeping Raspberry at the edge of oversized outdoor planters. It makes an effective "Spiller" to add a professional touch to your container gardens.
They spread beautifully, but don't behave invasively. Use a taller Ninebark or Crape Myrtle shrub as a "Thriller" and edge with Taiwan Creeping Raspberry.
On landscaped properties, plant them near newly installed boulders to easily ground the look. They'll softly erase the demarcation between the soil and the start of the rock.
Groundcovers are a designer's secret! People are even using this along lightly traveled paths as a lawn alternative.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Plant Taiwan Creeping Raspberry in full sun for optimal performance. It will tolerate some partial shade but a sunny spot is best for this creeping edible groundcover plant.
These plants need well-drained soils. Slopes are a great choice, so add extra soil if you need to improve drainage.
Get your Taiwan Creeping Raspberry established with a moderate amount of water regularly. Thereafter, provide a consistent schedule of water.
Trim errant branches at any time, as needed. Prune to shape in early spring, and lightly rake to remove fallen leaves and debris.
Keep lawn fertilizers away from these flowering, fruiting plants. Use a formula for blooming plants in spring, following the directions.
You'll love the fun texture and attractive good looks of Taiwan Creeping Raspberry plants as a handsome groundcover. Enjoy this stylish option in your landscape starting this season.
