Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Need a fast-growing, hardy shrub with brilliant foliage all year? Sunshine Privet (Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine') is a fast-growing, compact shrub with brightly colored ornamental foliage!

Your Sunshine Ligustrum is a variety of Privet with gleaming golden foliage all summer long. Its golden color is enhanced by sun exposure, so use this in places where its optimal color can be realized! You'll adore how the new leaves emerge light green in the spring before transitioning to their bright colors for summer.

The small oval leaves' glossy surface is a warm invitation to the sun's illuminating rays. It's an excellent plant that doesn't bloom, so it's not invasive at all! Your Sunshine is a broadleaf evergreen that will hold onto its golden color for winter, adding a slight orange tint to spice up the dreary winter landscape!

Unlike other Privets, Sunshine is flower-free and therefore, seed/berry free too! Making it a sterile plant that won't become invasive in some parts of the country!

This Chinese Privet is a sterile form that won't get into trouble in your environment. It will adapt to many spots in your landscape and its color lasts all year round! Members of the Olive family, these shrubs grow throughout USDA planting zones 6 through 10, growing 3-4 feet tall and wide, but can be pruned and shaped to adapt to your landscape's needs!

Planting and Application:

Vivid and as bright as the sun, these shrubs are fantastic focal points and specimen plants that light up the garden border! Make your home stand out with a foundation planting of these cheerful evergreen shrubs that add their liveliness to your curb appeal all year round!

These make a lively low-hedge, garden-defining border and backdrop that shows off all the other plants before them! A row or evenly spaced planting of Sunshine shrubs would certainly dress up your walkway, creating a cheery welcome for guests!

You can choose to prune Sunshine or leave it in a natural, fluffy form. It can be tightly sheared and clipped to be as informal or formal as you'd like! For a solid hedge, plant your Sunshine hedge 18 - 24 inches apart on center.

This space-saving Privet shrub even works beautifully in the container garden or in large planters around sunny patios and porches, even balconies and decks as privacy and pinpoint shade!

  • Broadleaf Evergreen Shrub With Bright Color
  • Long-Lived Fast Growing Four-Season Interest
  • Non-Invasive, Sterile Non-Flowering Form
  • Formal & Informal - Natural or Sheared
  • Fantastic Low Hedges, Vivid Specimens, Container Accents & Great for Topiary

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Not fading in the fullest of the summer sun, this brightly leafed shrub handles lots of heat and humidity. Any well-drained type of soil works perfectly for these plants and they do best with regular moisture access. Plant with Nature Hills Root Booster for lifelong symbiotic support, and regular moisture access during that first year. Provide a 3-4 inch deep top-dressing of arborist mulch.

Pruning a Privet hedge is easy! Either prune to shape a natural form and maintain a rounded form. Privet also responds beautifully to renewal pruning. Simply cut the oldest, thickest branches out right to the ground to open up the center of the shrub to more light and air circulation. You can even plan to periodically reduce your shrub right down to the ground leaving no branches above the soil. In a very short period of time, you'll see new shoots quickly develop from the roots and make a whole new plant for you.

For formally sheared shrubs, topiaries, or hedges it is also best done in spring. Use a string line a bit taller than your desired height or width to keep your lines perfectly straight.

For all hedges, it is always best to keep the lowest part of the hedge the widest and the top of the hedge the narrowest. This method of pruning will ensure nice density right to the ground.

Deer tend to pass Privet by, as do other common pests. These shrubs are salt and coastal condition-resistant, handle urban pollution, and are relatively easy to grow!

  • Heat Tolerant With Best Color In Full Sun
  • Adaptive to a Variety of Soil Conditions
  • Moderate Moisture Needs & Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune or Shear In Spring
  • Salt & Urban Tolerant, Insect Resistant, Deer Resistant & Mildew Resistant

There is no downside to this remarkable, ornamental shrub so plant one today and begin to reap its rich rewards. Your sterile and non-invasive Sunshine Privet is the type of shrub gardeners love to rave about! Order yours today at Nature Hills Nursery!
