Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Growing Zones 4-10
The brilliant dwarf pop of color from Proven Winners® ColorChoie® more than makes up for its size through sheer color! The Sunjoy® Gold Beret Barberry PP20,602 (Berberis thunbergii SUNJOY 'Talago') is a unique low-mounding shrub, with outstanding color!
Your Sunjoy® Gold Beret Barberry will provide a multi-seasonal, no-burn color for the sun garden! It shows off its new red foliage in the spring, and then turns a striking yellow-gold for the summer! In fall it will transform again to a brilliant orange-red. It’s sure to be an eye-catcher anywhere in the yard.
Spring also has tiny yellow bell-shaped blossoms that the bees adore, and autumn has tiny berries the birds adore! You may not notice these tiny touches but backyard visitors certainly will! But don't worry about deer, those thorny branches are usually a pretty good deterrent.
Hardy low-growing shocks of color throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 10, these highly adaptable deciduous shrubs only grow into 6-12 inch tall and wide dollops of gold! Gold Beret is practically no-maintenance and like all Proven Winners® shrubs, a dream to grow!
Planting and Application:
The brilliant golden hue is sheer brilliance! It's an excellent choice to place a focal point anywhere in your landscape that needs a bright shot of color without sacrificing any space to get it!
The Sunjoy® Gold Beret Barberry is petite, perfect for tight spaces, as a border, or in mass plantings where it really shines. This would be beautiful in front of an evergreen privacy screen, along the fronts of all your garden beds to define the transition between lawn and garden, or add some shock value to a weary evergreen foundation hedge! The bright yellow and red against dark emerald green would be a stunning contrast of color and texture!
Try using Gold Beret as a facer plant or front of the hedge addition when mixed with other Sunjoy® Barberries for a showy contrast!
Pot up for your sunny porches and patios as a filler and spiller that accents everything it's planted with! Like a shining beacon, Gold Beret helps everything else around it show off too! Balcony gardeners and apartment dwellers alike can gain showy color!
- Bright Gold Foliage
- Tiny Yellow Flowers For Bees
- Brilliant Orange-Red Fall Tones
- Very Small Mounded Showy Plants
- Compact For Containers, Edging, Borders & Front of the Border Color!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
You will see the very best show of color when planted in full sun. Gold Beret is very adaptable and tolerant of many conditions and is slow-growing, so it won't require a lot of care from you! Another useful feature of this particular cultivar is that it won't suffer leaf scorch like some other yellow Barberry will, making it a superior selection among Barberry choices. Any type of well-drained, slightly acidic soil with average moisture access is perfect for these shrubs!
Pruning after flowering, or shear into a more formal shape. But little pruning is required unless you wish to change its shape or overall size. Wear thick, leather gloves before working with Barberry! In early spring, use a fertilizer formula for acid-loving plants according to label directions. Add a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch, pine bark or pine straw mulch over the root system, which will also help keep the soil slightly acidic and retain soil moisture.
- Full Sun - No Leaf Burn
- Moderate Moisture & Acidic Well-Drained Soil
- Drought Tolerant Once Established
- Nearly No-Maintenance - Prune After Flowering If Needed
- Deer Resistant & Few Pests or Diseases
