Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.
Standard Shipping Rates
At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

This colorful cutie from Proven Winners® brings vibrancy and joy to gardens all year long! With dark orange foliage, Sunjoy® Cinnamon Barberry PP#24,586 (Berberis thunbergii 'Celeste') adds a wonderful contrast to your garden!
This show-stopping shrub produces bright orange, red, and yellow-green foliage. It shows its deepest color in the heat of summer, but you can see hints of its oranges and reds once spring arrives, and your pollinators will enjoy the many little yellow blossoms that appear. Small oval leaves sprout from compact branches and fill in from crown to the ground!
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8, this Proven Winners® shrub can grow into a dense ball 4-5 feet tall and wide! Barberry is known for its ability to do well in cities and its tolerance to urban pollution, so it's a perfect plant for commercial property owners, too!
Landscape Application:
This is a breathtaking specimen plant or can be used behind deep purples, mellow yellows, and bright green partner plants. Use as a foundation planting, or as a hedge for privacy and screening! Sunjoy® Cinnamon under windows without blocking your view but will add a layer of security around first-story windows!
Gardens in deer country appreciate this plant's resistance to deer. Many people plant this shrub as a barrier plant to discourage deer from rummaging through their garden beds. But you can also use this shrub to deter wayward foot traffic and even trespassers!
Cinnamon also looks wonderful next to stone or cement, and goes with about any color of home siding! So, consider lining your driveway, or along a fence line. Or, create a beautiful Japanese Garden with Sunjoy® Cinnamon Barberry as a carefully placed shot of color!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best color, plant these deciduous shrubs in full sun. But in hotter climates, they appreciate a touch of afternoon shade. Japanese Barberry grows well in well-drained, medium-moisture soil in full sun and thrives once established. You can prune this pretty plant to help it keep its shape or allow it to grow into a natural shape. Blooming on old wood, it is recommended that you prune Barberry after they flower. A generous 3-4 inches of arborist mulch over the roots helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill all season long.
While it is true that while some Barberry cultivars are invasive in some areas, they may not be invasive in all areas. So Nature Hills protects your environment and has taken the initiative to develop our own compliance company called Plant Sentry™ so that you will not be able to even purchase a plant that your state has prohibited because of invasiveness, insects, or disease.
We have a full-time compliance officer who keeps those restrictions for all states current and up to date at all times. We are the only nursery selling plants online that is fully compliant according to each state's rules. Find out if we can ship to you - just enter your zip code above the Plant Highlights section of this p>roduct page.
