Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Compact and Textured - Sungold False Cypress
While some need endless amounts of time in the sun to get that coveted "sun-soaked golden" appearance, Sungold False Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold') needs no such accommodations. It's got that shade locked in naturally!
Gardeners ranging from novice to expert often find themselves with pretty mono-colored shrub varieties. That deep green is just such a staple, especially with evergreen shrubs. Try mixing it up by planting a Sungold.
Sungold False Cypress is a rather slow-growing shrub that takes on a broad pyramidal shape. Its branches are an absolutely stunning shade of almost lime green!
Not only is the color something to behold, but the branches also grow distinct-looking thread-like foliage. The texture this gives Sungold is unparalleled.
We know what you're thinking. Every shrub this shade of green fades eventually over the summer and that's one of the things that makes this evergreen so unique. It'll hold that sun-soaked green color all summer long!
Don't wait for another season to come and go without adding a Sungold False Cypress to your garden. Order today from our expert growers here at Nature Hills Nursery!
How to Use Sungold False Cypress in the Landscape
There's no such thing as a wrong way to use this false cypress! Of course, that leaves a lot of options on the table. We'll lay out a few just so you aren't too overwhelmed.
Imagine a border made up of this lime-green shrub! Its lower-to-the-ground form means you can have a border without feeling like the hedge is overbearing or taking over the garden!
If you want to spunk it up a little bit, try pairing your Sungold with a darker shrub like a Boxwood or a Viburnum! The color contrast is sure to catch the eye!
Use this finely textured evergreen in your island plantings or rock gardens. It looks quite well placed against rocks or grass, it's truly a versatile little plant!
Do you have a portion of siding against your house that could use some cover? How about an air conditioner or garden hose? Use Sungold as a foundation plant to take that area from drab to fab!
Cottage Gardens are another perfect place to plant a Sungold False Cypress. Its fascinating texture blends in well with the quirky kind of pretty that Cottage Gardens often have.

#ProPlantTips for Care
No matter how many Sungold False Cypress you add to your landscape the ease of which you can care for it will have you wishing you had gotten more. If you want the ultimate plant-it-and-forget-it shrub, look no further.
Simply plant your evergreen shrub in full sun for the best and brightest color. However, this versatile and adaptable specimen can also handle part shade. Think of all the possibilities!
Make sure to also check the soil. Like most plants, Sungold appreciates well-drained soils. Water regularly until the root systems are established. You might consider adding a layer of mulch starting one inch from the base of the plant.
Mulch will keep the plant cooler in the summer months and help conserve water. Once the plant is established though, it is rather drought tolerant.
Sungold won't need much pruning due to its slower growth, but if you find yourself wanting to give it a light trim do so in the early spring with a sharp pair of shears.
One thing you certainly won't have to worry about when picking your perfect planting spot is deer. This specimen is known to be quite deer-resistant!
- Full Sun For Best Coloring & Tolerates Light Shade
- Well-Drained Soil Locations
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Deer Resistant
- Easy to Care For!
- Prune In Spring If Needed
The search for the perfect golden compliment to your Boxwoods, Japanese Maples, and Weigelas is over! Snatch up a Sungold False Cypress today, we'll run out soon for sure!
