This prairie perennial is the “real deal” and will bring Monarch and other local butterflies to your yard. They'll flock to the vibrant bunches of blooms and love the nectar. Planting Stiff Goldenrod (Solidago rigida) creates needed critical habitat for many species in the fall time. And, as grassland habitat declines, so does this lovely plant species.

Stiff Goldenrod is an excellent choice to improve the diversity of your garden's ecosystem while being remarkably deer resistant. It blooms in late summer and thrives in many soil types that other plants find inhospitable. From clay to dry soil, this hardy flower thrives in full sun.

Birds love this plant, too. The sturdy stem of this plant makes for a helpful perch for many songbirds, while other birds find its seeds to be the perfect late season snack.

Create some excitement with this native favorite. Plant it along the edge of wooded areas, tall grass, meadows, or use it as an anchor in a butterfly garden. If you have a small yard, corral this important native by planting it in an area bounded by concrete.

This is a perfect perennial for a sunny side yard garden bed, where it can do it's thing without taking over. Be sure to remove the wilting seed heads to promote more blooms and control the natural self-seeding process. And don't worry, this isn't the plant that causes hay fever (that's ragweed!)

This native may be a favorite because of how easily it grows, but in some areas, this lively plant actually grows slightly "too well."
