Elegant and colorful blooms on a pretty little shrub, the Little Princess Spirea (Spiraea japonica 'Little Princess') is a highly ornamental flowering shrub that is fuss-free for any yard or garden! Profuse pink flowers in small corymbs cover the arching stems of this plant in late spring. Flowers and leaves all appear on the same side of the arching branches. Finely textured foliage appears and fills out the entire shrub all growing season!

Butterflies adore the flowers! And Little Princess Spirea has those in profusion! The foamy and fizzy-looking bright pink blossoms appear in clusters of tiny smaller blooms. These are gorgeous accent shrubs that are adaptable, hardy and exquisite!

This Little Princess Spirea cultivar is a dense, upright, compact, mounded deciduous shrub that has narrow, dark blue-green foliage. Featuring yellow fall color and thick branching to stand up to winter snows, Spirea are tough little plants!

Planting and Application:

These small and tidy shrubs absolutely smother these plants for a long time and are fantastic ornamentals! Use as low hedges and borders, landscape edging and foundation plants that are so rugged, that even commercial landscapers use them quite often in their landscaping.

So it is a beautiful plant throughout the entire growing season! Add to pollinator gardens and cottage borders for color that you won't have to fuss over! Easy-care as well, Spirea only needs trimming once a year and some fertilizer to keep them happy.

This plant grows like crazy. I have 2 in my flower bed. I pruned the branches to about6-8 inches last spring and theyve grown back as if I hadnt pruned! Bees love the compact flower clusters. Beautiful dark red fall color. The branches even change color with the seasons. Very easy to care for. Just plant and watch them grow,grow,grow! A must have for any beginning gardener.

This plant is extremely hardy. Water it, feed it, or don't it doesn't matter. I can prune it back after it flowers and it will quickly grow back and flower again. Last summer I did this 5 times. After it went dormant I cut it down to about 6 inches and it came back with gusto this year. It does set off new plants by growing from the wide spreading roots or from layered branches. These can carefully be cut from the mother plant and planted as a new plant. In reference to the above reported rogue spreading of the roots: This can easily be cured by cutting the roots (root pruning) at the end of September (in my area, Missouri) with a spade. Just make a vertical cut with the shovel around the drip zone of the bush. Step on the shovel straight down into the soil circling the plant. This will do two good things for you: Strengthen the root system by making it have more root fibers rather than a few long big ones, and obviously stop the plant from going where you don't want.
