Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Someone get this shrub a crown because it's garden royalty for sure! Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia 'Snow Queen') will hold court for all who see it, and for good reason too!

This deciduous shrub's majesty starts with its foliage! The dark green leaves are boldly lobed and quite large for a bush. They create a stunning backdrop for the showy blooms that blossom in the early summer.

These white flowers hold themselves with all the grace and proper posture of a queen. In fact, these panicles are known to be some of the most upright in the species. As these blossoms age, they'll turn a gentle light shade of pink.

They don't call this plant "queen" for nothing. The Royal Horticultural Society bestowed the prestigious Award of Garden Merit to it and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society gave it the Gold Medal Award as well!

Once planted in your landscape, you'll be delighted to see its dense, rounded dome-shaped growing habit. This means it'll fit in the garden well without creating sharp or garring edges.

The show isn't over once the blooming is done and the warmest seasons of the year are winding down. Before retiring, the foliage throws one last party by turning gorgeous shades of purple, maroon, and bronze!

Adding a Snow Queen to your garden will bring beneficial pollinators like butterflies to your yard in droves. Sit back, relax, and watch their futtering extravagance.

This shrub will make enough pannicles for you to pick a couple for a lovely bouquet while leaving enough for the butterflies to enjoy. Brighten up your living room with a cluster or two of these showy flowers!

Don't let another season slip past without one of these gracing your garden. Add Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea to your landscape today!

How to Use Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea in the Landscape

Use it as an accent in your perennial garden beds to add a texture. Or plant in the back to give the perennials a dense backdrop that will make their bright colors pop.

You can also plant in a line as the border to your garden. Mix it up a bit by adding different varieties and make it its own royal procession through your garden.

Oakleaf Hydrangeas don't need as much sun as other Hydrangeas, which makes them perfect to use in the northeast corner of your yard as an anchor or statement piece.

This white-flowered shrub can be used in your island or rock gardens without fear that it'll hog the attention or clash with other colors.

Plant as part of your pollinator garden to make sure butterflies have plenty of nectar to munch on while waiting for other native plants to reach their full potential later in the summer.

Try adding them on either side of your entryway to establish a worthy first impression for the guests you invite over.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Once you've decided on this shrub, you'll want to know how to take care of it. Don't worry, keeping this plant happy and healthy is a piece of cake.

Give it a sunny spot to live, full sun and partial shade work best. Along with basking in the rays, it'll appreciate well-drained soil to sink its roots into. We don't blame it, who likes wet feet?

When it comes to pruning, keep in mind that this bush blooms on old wood. This means the best time to prune is right after it's done blooming for the season so you don't disturb next year's flowers.

Every three or four years you'll want to cut out the oldest, fattest, stems. This makes room for the younger, thinner branches to grow. These are responsible for most of the flower power anyway!

Protect the roots from the heat of summer and the cold of winter by adding a layer of mulch around the base. You'll also be conserving water while elevating the eye-appeal of the landscape as a whole.

Ordering this award winner is a no-brainer in our eyes. Get a Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea of your own today from our expert growers at Nature Hills Nursery!
