Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 7-11
We all have that one neighbor. Maybe they have an unusual hobby or fitness routine, or a reluctance to hide their garbage cans. No matter what you're faced with, the Shrubby Yew Podocarpus (Podocarpus macrophyllus 'Maki') is a green privacy solution that will fit - even in smaller spaces!
The soft green foliage is similar to that of its Taxus namesake, it has dense foliage that grows in a natural pyramidal form. That means less pruning is required on your part! The foliage is small, comes in a rich, deep green, and is softly needle-like. This gives the tree a 'fluffy', finely textured appearance!
Just like their Yew cousins, these evergreens produce yellow pollen cones and fleshy blue seeds that get red fleshy outsides. These conifers are hardy throughout the heat and humidity of USDA planting zones 7 to 11 and can reach 15 to 20 feet in height but can spread 4 to 5 feet wide. Growing well in coastal areas, Podocarpus attracts songbirds, and is resistant to deer, drought, and heat! They're prized for Fire-wise and Xeric landscapes!
Landscape Application:
Perfect for narrow city side yards or planted as a great screen along a backyard fence line or a walled garden. It makes a perfect green column that works well as a corner element or flanking an entryway. It is a lifesaver as a divider separating multi-story homes on modern deep, narrow lots.
Use as a textured pop among mixed shrub borders or to bulk up a windbreak, shelterbelt, or evergreen hedge! Multiple plants serve as a showy backdrop and as a tall divider between properties where you want to block the view from a neighbor's second-story window.
Want to create green walls around your seating areas to create private outdoor rooms? These soft evergreens are perfect for sectioning off and screening out unwanted views around your pool, hot tub, and sunbathing areas. Or just carve out a nook for your reading chair or meditation area to find a slice of peace and quiet!
The lush green and fluffy texture works great with other low-maintenance plants like Crape Myrtles, Pittosporums, Agapanthus, and Abelia!
- Prized For Its Soft Evergreen Foliage
- Tall & Narrow Columnar
- Small Yellow 'Flowers' Become Red Berries For Birds
- Can Grow In Coastal Gardens, Heat & Humidity
- Firescaping Windbreak, Great Privacy Screen & Tall Garden Walls!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Podocarpus is super easy to care for, requiring normal water (eventually being waterwise and drought-tolerant) but little else. These evergreens grow best in a location for full sun to part shade, tolerating all kinds of well-drained soils. You don't need to prune unless you want to keep them shorter, by trimming after the first flush of spring growth. Top-dress with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch for best results!
- Full Sun Plant & Handles Part Shade
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture - Drought Tolerant
- Prune After First Flush Of Growth
- Deer, Salt, Heat & Humidity Resistant
Don't be bothered by unsightly views! Use the fluffy and bright green Shrubby Yew Podocarpus to bring much-needed, Zen-like calm to your backyard oasis! Order yours at NatureHills.com today!
