Plant Diamond Lake in an area that receives the right amount of light. The leaves need some morning sun to bring the rich color out. Too much sun will burn the leaves. It grows well in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. When watering, it's important to lift up the leaves so the moisture can reach the roots directly underneath. Sometimes when watering from overhead, the leaves can act as an umbrella, leaving the roots as dry as they were before watering.

Low maintenance, there's not much work for you! Once frosts arrive, Hosta is an herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground and emerges again in early spring. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. Be sure to remove dead leaf matter from the area to prevent the spread of fungal issues and deter slugs. The thick leaves have excellent slug resistance and no disease issues! Divide your perennials every 3-5 years to maintain vigor. Diamond Lake shows good slug resistance in the landscape.
