Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

If you were to take a boat along the towering ocean cliffs of Cornwall during the summertime, you'd witness carpets of small pink and white flowers growing on the salty rock faces. Thriving in what appears to be uninhabitable locations.

Those are called wild Sea Thrift, known for being as sweet and dainty as a China cup, yet hardy… and seemingly as strong as a cement block!

We are pleased to offer an urbanized version of these wildflowers called Modern Sea Thrift (Armeria maritima)! These flowers are perfect for American gardens, large or small. The plants pop up every year in little tufts of bright green. In the springtime after the leaves have formed, the plant grows spikes of small globular flowers that invite you to bend down and examine them.

Growing just 8 - 12 inches tall when in bloom the green tufts spread about as wide. Very cold-hardy in USDA planting zones 4 to 8, there is very little that will faze these perennial plants aside from soggy soil and shade. Not even pests or deer bother these rugged little ornamentals!

Landscape Application:

Sea Thrift will give you countless repeat years of summer garden pleasure! These flowers actually thrive in poor, rocky soil that is well-drained. They also do quite well nestled among rock gardens and along dry stream beds.

Thrift is a remarkably versatile plant. You can plant them in almost any sort of well-drained pot, container, or window box! You can even situate them to look like they are spilling out of broken pottery for a natural effect.

Their diminutive size means easy gardening no matter how much space you have to give them! These plants also make a tidy edger along the front of your garden bed. Perfect for small inner-city gardens or to jazz up the front of your perennials border.

Plant them en masse as a replacement for lawn grass, and enjoy a bloom-filled yard. They spread slowly, so if you want them for groundcover, you'll need to plant quite a few of them to ensure adequate coverage.

  • Lots of Bright Pink Flowers
  • Tough, Hardy Perennial
  • Round Tufts Of Spikey Green Leaves
  • Good Lawn Substitute
  • Great in Borders, Rock Gardens & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Sea Thrift needs full sun to do best, so provide a bare minimum of 6 hours of direct sun a day. Any type of soil so long as it has excellent drainage. Water them enough just to get them established, and then keep them dry and well-drained as they grow.

If you remove the spent flowers – a process called deadheading – these hardy plants will reward you with continuous blooms all summer long.

  • Rugged & Durable
  • Full Sun Perennial Plants
  • Must Have Well-Drained Soil
  • Low Water Needs - Water-Wise & Drought Tolerant
  • Deadhead For Rebloom - Clean Mounds After Main Flowering Is Done
  • Deer Resistant

You'll want to add these compact, low-growing little beauties to your garden this year, so order your Sea Thrift today and then sit back and relax! Buy now at NatureHills.com and get quality perennials delivered to your doorstep!
