Vibrant Wild Rose look, modern Rose superiority, the Winnipeg Parks Shrub Rose (Rosa 'Winnipeg Parks') is a vibrant cherry-pink Shrub Rose that is hardy, everblooming, and has something of interest to look at all growing season long - and beyond!

The semi-double blooms are a pollinator's favorite! Opening fully to expose the nectar and pollen-laden golden centers, bees and butterflies will happily be frolicking from cluster to cluster of bloom! Just when you think these deep pink blooms are done, you'll see more cherry-red buds forming among the dark green, glossy foliage!

Winnipeg Parks Rose is grown on its own root, making it fantastically hardy and disease-resistant! Hardy in the chilliest climates of USDA growing zones 3 to 7, this Landscaping Shrub Rose can be killed back to its roots each winter, then bounce back as good as ever each spring!

Planting and Application:

Not only do your pollinators love these blooms, but birds will love nesting and roosting in the dense branching and protective thorns. Then in fall, birds return to your Winnipeg Parks Rose to peck at the colorful red Rose hips that form and provide winter interest (and maybe some tea and preserves for you too!).

Winnipeg Parks Roses are formidable hedges and property division! You'll love the dense greenery and space-saving growth that forms a 2-3 foot tall and wide ball, but also love the fast growth and vibrant color all growing season long! #ProPlantTips for Care

Plant in any full sun location with adequate moisture and enriched, well-drained soil. Lay 3-4 inches of mulch around the entire root system for a happy plant! This Rose is grown on its own root and the advantage is that once established they are very resilient! If winter's freezing breezes kill the top growth, the Rose will grow back in the spring and will look the same as the one you purchased. This Rose generally does not need much pruning. But if pruning is needed, do it in late winter to early spring.

Read all you need about pruning Roses, winterizing Roses, and un-wintering Roses in spring in our #ProPlantTips Garden Blog! It is also disease-resistant so you'll worry less about this tough and cheerful gem!

While there is not a specific month that is best, generally because it changes with temperatures, climate and growing zone. A very hardy low maintenance long blooming rose

We live in Wisconsin. We planted two dozen Winnipeg Parks rose bushes 4 years ago and from the first season they grew to great size and flowered non-stop through October. They are very hardy, in 4 winters we have not lost one plant and have done nothing more than provide thick mulch in the rose bed. Only negative is they strongly attract the Japanese beetle.

Hello strasserjr,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with the Winnipeg Parks shrub rose! We’re thrilled to hear how well they have flourished in your Wisconsin garden, thriving for four seasons and rewarding you with beautiful, long-lasting blooms. It’s a testament to their hardy nature and ease of care, and your efforts with mulching have clearly helped create an ideal environment.

We appreciate your honesty about the Japanese beetle attraction—these pests can be tricky to manage. A few organic, eco-friendly strategies you might consider include using Milky Spore powder to target Japanese beetle larvae in the soil or placing pheromone traps away from your rose beds to help draw them away. Regular inspection and removing beetles by hand during early morning can also reduce their numbers. You might find helpful info on integrated pest management specifically for Japanese beetles from your local cooperative extension service as well.

If you ever need guidance on additional ways to protect your plants or tips tailored to Wisconsin’s climate, we’re here to help. Thanks again for trusting NatureHills with your garden!

Hello Strasserjr,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful experience with the Winnipeg Parks Shrub Rose! It’s fantastic to hear how hardy and long-blooming these roses have been for you, especially through Wisconsin’s challenging winters, and that they’ve thrived with such minimal care. Your success speaks volumes about this resilient variety!

Regarding the Japanese beetle attraction, they can certainly be a persistent pest. To help manage them, you might consider hand-picking the beetles early in the morning when they’re less active or using pheromone traps placed away from your roses to lure them away. Additionally, introducing beneficial nematodes to the soil or applying neem oil can reduce beetle populations more naturally. Mulching, as you’ve been doing, also helps keep plant roots healthy. For detailed pest control tips, our blog offers some great non-toxic and effective options that might fit your gardening style.

Thank you again for sharing your garden story with us. We’re delighted to know these beautiful roses have brought you prolonged summer color and joy!
