Known for its impeccable great looks, the gorgeous Peace Rose (Rosa 'Peace') is also a survivor. The story of this world-famous Rose has become just as important as the blooms themselves. In today's tough world, it's important to fight for what we believe in. If you believe in the principles of peace, this is a meaningful way to show it. No matter your age or stage, adding a Peace Rose to your landscape will bring you a calm respite. Care for it mindfully and savor the joy it brings.

This garden standout and is truly a living piece of history. There is simply nothing like a Hybrid Tea Rose. Like so many before you, you'll absolutely cherish every single 6-inch, lightly fragranced bloom. Heavily cupped and high-centered, the gorgeous Peace blooms feature 45 lush petals apiece. Peace repeats its bloom all season. It's a classic form that delivers a very sleek and modern look to the landscape. And the tender ombre coloration captures your heart.

From bud to bloom, you'll see shades of creamy white that deepen to light buttercream yellow. The subtle hint of red to pink is more intense near the edge of the petals and deepens with age.

Overall, each of the Peace blooms becomes an inspiration, focused and determined to remain ever optimistic. This is not a shrinking violet. This plant stands for an idea that is larger than itself, and the beauty is fiercely intense.

Peace Hybrid Tea Rose History

Peace is one of the most successful Roses ever produced.

It was hybridized in 1935 by the brilliant French horticulturist, Francis Melliand who saw the invasion of France as an inevitable possibility. He desperately sent cutting to friends in different parts of the world to try to secure its future.

The Peace Rose was finally named and introduced in the United States on April 29, 1945, on the very same day that Berlin fell. This momentous day was the turning point when the terrible World War II finally began to come to a close. Peace won AARS accolade honors in 1946 and on the same day, the peace treaty was signed with Japan.

The Peace Rose has a very special place in the world, and its time hasn't passed or tarnished into a vintage memory. Not by a long shot!

Planting and Application:

Create a special spot for this outstanding feature plant! You might imagine this as a living sculpture, but it's not a hothouse plant. Peace is actually quite vigorous and robust. The large, leathery leaves and outstanding blooms on these tall shrubs will make a definite impact on your landscape. Keep it classic with a low, clipped Boxwood or Privet hedge, or plant several of them as a fabulous hedge.

Plant one or more to decorate and perfume your patio seating area. Plan to cut the buds and blooms regularly for professional cut flower arrangements. This will encourage faster rebloom, and elevate the quality of your life! Heavy, straight stems hold the blooms aloft. Richly vibrant, glossy green leaves are a perfect visual foil to the bi-colored blooms. You'll want to add several sprays to your floral arrangements to set off the maturing blooms.

If you are a Millennial with a new home, have graduated from succulents, or are an empty nester with time on your hands, Peace becomes a cherished plant pet. Yoga fanatics and returning soldiers who desire a special focal point for a Meditation Garden should take a good look at this magnificent fragrant Tea Rose variety. Create a special garden bed for your favorites. Use this as the perfect memorial, or as a fascinating specimen focal point in a Meditation Garden.

Hybrid Tea Roses look fantastic in oversized garden containers! They'll be a perfect accent for balconies, decks, and porches for many years with proper care. This exquisite selection easily amplifies the curb appeal of your home. Place a pair of Peace Roses on either side of your front door for a stunning welcome and high-end look!

Or go the other way to push the design and try new things. Use Peace as a tall backdrop, paired with the rigid architectural spikes of Yucca, strappy cheerful Daylilies, or a coarse-textured Groundcover Juniper. Life is short, so go ahead and let the neighbors talk.

You'll simply love this Rose, as have so many others before you. Allow it to spark a passion for Roses. Wherever you use it, be sure to take the time to study it. Visit it each day and baby it a bit. You'll be lavishly rewarded with the ever-changing color play of those enormous blooms.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. It's best to use ground soaker hoses or drip irrigation if you can. If you must use overhead sprinklers, time them to go off at sunrise so that the drying power of the morning sun can quickly dry the foliage. Fertilize your Peace Rose using a general-purpose fertilizer like Dr. Earth Life Organic and Natural All-Purpose Fertilizer in the early spring and mid-summer.

While the Peace Rose has good disease resistance, you'll want to watch for moisture-related fungus and mildew-related problems. Most of these concerns can be easily avoided by planting in locations that receive early morning sun.

You'll want to follow a schedule every 7 - 14 days during the growing season. Spray the top and bottom of all foliage with Bonide Bon-Neem Fungicide Miticide Insecticide RTU Spray Oil in the late afternoon once the setting sun has lost most of its heat. You'll polish the foliage and protect it at the same time. Call it Me-Time communing with your lovely plants.

Prune in early spring to maintain plenty of dense branching. Want more info about pruning Roses, winterizing Roses, and un-wintering Roses in spring? Check out Nature Hills #ProPlantTips Garden Blog! Growing Hybrid Tea Roses in zones colder than zone 7 should be mounded with 8-12 inches of mulch in late fall for best overwintering.
