Growing Zones 3-9
Do you ever wish you got to live the excitement of the Roaring Twenties: flappers, jazz, the Harlem Renaissance, and speakeasies? Well, there's no better Iris to embody the inspiration and artistic growth of the 1920s than the Roaring Twenties Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Roaring Twenties')!
With deep purple falls with improvisational ruffles, you'll feel the dynamic energy of jazz when you gaze into this bloom! With a flirty and highly ruffled blush-pink standard, you'll feel the fun it must have been to be a flapper. And with the moody and exquisite combination of pale pink, violet, and a tangerine beard, you'll feel the sensational and deep composition of a well-written Harlem Renaissance poem. And we have to mention the violet shock of its purple ribbing on its style arms!
This stunning Iris roars in height, as well. When it blooms in mid-to-late spring, it climbs above many other Tall Bearded Iris varieties. It becomes the go-to spot for bees and butterflies, and it will enchant you with its lovely fragrance! Plant a few extra to enjoy the colorful bloom in cut flower bouquets!
Planting and Application:
Use this roaring beauty as a way to garner attention to your Cottage garden or add some jazz to your walkways as a border or edging. Roaring Twenties also looks delightful when planted in a Rock garden, in en masse plantings, or in a grouping beside your hardscaping where its sun tolerance and low maintenance adaptability allow it to thrive.
This fantastic Iris is bold enough to be used as a specimen planting, and in front of the garden or before a hedge as edging in tight areas! These Iris are also wonderful for use in porch planters and mixed container gardens as thrillers and vertical texture. Small sunny courtyards, mixed Perennial and wildflower gardens, and the Pollinator border are all ideal settings for these perennials!
- Light Peach Standards & Purple Falls & Ruffles Galore
- Fragrant Spring Flowering Perennial
- Vertical Sword-Like Foliage Clumps
- Showy Cut Flowers & Pollinator-Friendly
- Container Thrillers, Landscape Specimens, Mass Plantings & More!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
The Roaring Twenties Tall Bearded Iris loves showing off its frilly ruffles in full sun or partial shade. It also does best when planted in a spot that drains well with regular, moderate moisture needs that become low moisture once established. All plants appreciate a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch over the rhizomes and surrounding soil area. Deadhead when the blooms are done but keep the leaves so they can make food for the bulb. As the years pass, you will want to divide and transplant the new Iris rhizomes every few years depending on how closely they're planted together.
Information About Bareroot Iris
Bareroot Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots. Container plants are well-grown in the nursery for several years in their container to establish a strong root system. This low-maintenance perennial does best when planted in fall.
When planting Iris, set them up for success by positioning the rhizome with the roots pointed downward and the top third of its rhizome exposed. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch, compost, or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover it in the spring.
