To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Seasonally, Nature Hills offers hand selected, high quality bare root trees, shrubs and perennials. Bare root plants are sold by height from the top of the root system to the top of the plant. Plants may be taller than the height minimums.

This little plant is not for the faint of heart! Only buy Red Wings Creeping Phlox (Phlox subulata 'Red Wings') if you are ready for the attention it is going to bring you. Trust us when we tell you that it is one of those plants that will make people stop their cars and come to your door just to ask you what it is!
Every spring this petite perennial is completely smothered in deep crimson flowers with dark centers. (And when we say smothered, we mean that the flowers are so thick you might not see any green foliage at all through them)! But the sheer number of beneficial pollinators that these early spring flowering perennials attract may make it difficult to see the flowers at times!
Cold and heat-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9, many Creeping Phlox can remain semi to fully evergreen in mild winter climates! When in bloom, this low-growing carpet-type Moss Phlox only reaches 6-8 inches in height but spreads to an impressive 30-36 inches wide! That’s three feet of glamorous color!
Planting and Application:
Red Wings is very drought tolerant once it is established. It is native to rocky embankments and the nooks and crannies of crumbling walls in Appalachia, so you know that it takes the fast-draining crummy soil of the elevated spots in your yard!
Whether you plant several Red Wing Moss Phlox as a groundcover or a couple as an accent in a Rock Garden or just one cascading over a garden wall you are going to be stopping traffic! Use as a facer plant in front of your foundation plantings for an incredibly vibrant "carpet of color"!
These are perfect in mixed planters, in porch pottery, and container garden spillers and fillers for your year-round mixed plantings in the sun!
These spreading Phlox are perfect as en masse blankets that cover the ground like living mulch, or on hillsides for covering hard-to-mow slopes and erosion control. Remove sod and space them two feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.
Use Red Wings along the edges of flagstone paths, or fill a broken section among your patio pavers! Plant Red Wings in full sun for the most blooms and the densest growth. Despite Red Wings' eye-catching color, it isn't a garden diva. It doesn't require pruning to keep its shape and only infrequent watering once it is established. For best results, supply these hardy perennials with supplemental water on a regular basis and a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch. This choice is great for low-maintenance landscapes and new gardeners. Carpet Phlox even displays some tolerance to salt, as well!
Deadhead Creeping Phlox immediately after the flowers fade and you may just enjoy a rebloom later in the growing season! Divide your clumps every few years and enjoy increased vigor - and free plants to extend your Phlox enjoyment in your landscape!
