Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Thinking about adding a bit of flavor to your home made meals? Don’t hesitate to grow your very one shallots in your backyard garden! Experience is not needed--the Red Sun Shallot is an easy beginner vegetable!

You may not be sure what the difference between shallots and onions is. It’s okay--we get it. They look the same! The real difference is shallots are more delicate with their sweet flavor.

Planting and Application:

Plant your new Shallot in early spring once the ground is workable. You’ll be enjoying shallot in your meals soon!

  • ”What are shallots?” is a question you may be wondering. They’re an up and coming vegetable that have a tapered shape with copper, red, or grayish skin.
  • You can plant shallots in many different conditions and environments! All they really need is well drained soil and a sunny spot.
  • Shallots are great as a unique onion substitute or a little bit of flavor for soup, pasta, and more. They aren’t the same thing as onions, as they have a milder taste and smell. You can even eat them raw! Sometimes they are just a better alternative since they don’t have a tangy bite like onions.
  • The Red Sun Shallot grows best in zones 1-11. Need to find your hardiness zone? Use our map to locate yours!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Shallots are a great first vegetable to start your garden journey. They are unique, but super easy to care for!

  • Plant shallots in a full sun location. They like to bask in the sun while they mature!
  • Be sure to provide well drained soil. This ensures the shallot will have enough moisture but it won’t drown the vegetable!
  • Water your new shallots regularly. If you’re not sure if they need water, you can use the finger test. You can stick your finger down in the soil near the root. If it’s dry--give it some water! If it’s still moist, hold off for that day.
