#ProPlantTips for Care:
It's incredibly cold hardy, and can thrive in both full sun or some partial shade. Well-drained soil is best, but these are widely adaptable shrubs in any kind of soil type as long as they have good drainage. Water carefully to establish and during periods of drought.
Privet tolerates dry soil once it is established, so get your new installations established successfully, plant with Nature Hills Root Booster for lifelong symbiotic support, and regular moisture access during that first year. Provide a 3-4 inch deep top-dressing of arborist mulch.
Wait to prune until late spring, letting these shrubs flower before pruning, that way your pollinators will be well-fed. If you want to feed the birds in the autumn, then choose to renewal prune every 3-5 years. Remove the older, fatter branches out at the main trunk or from the root zone.
If flowers and fruit are not your concern, prune this deciduous Privet any time of year. Shearing after the first flush of growth and again if needed in mid-summer. When shearing and training your plants into a hedge, always be sure the lowest part of the plant is the widest part. Keep the tops a bit more narrow than the bottom, to encourage foliage all the way to the ground.
If you have an overgrown shrub and want to start over fresh if needed, simply cut all plants down to 2-3 inches tall and allow the plants to re-grow from the roots.
