Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

There is a good reason that the Amur North River Privet (Ligustrum amurense) is so popular! It's beautiful, low-maintenance, super speedy, and can be kept to any size or shape. Plant them and watch how quickly they establish themselves into a perfect hedge!

You'll enjoy the sight and scent of the white panicles of tiny flowers that will seem to spring forth in all directions on hardy, erect stems. Butterflies and other pollinators will appreciate the nectar as a special treat. It's amazing to see how many are drawn to your yard in an enchanting display.

Leave the flowers on to develop into tiny, black drupes in the fall. They will tend to hang on into the winter for local songbirds to enjoy while they nest and shelter in the dense branching. Forming an upright and tall multi-stemmed shrub with oblong leaves.

Amur North is so hardy that it thrives in almost any condition! Cold-tolerant throughout USDA hardiness zones 4 to 7, these deciduous shrubs grow 12-15 feet in height and 8-10 feet wide. Privet isn't just an attractive and adaptable plant, it's also winter hardy, drought tolerant, transplants easily, and is long-lived!

Planting and Application:

These fast-growing, deciduous shrubs are primarily grown for outstanding hedge plants. But you can also use one as a pleasing specimen plant! Especially if you plant it just where you need a boost of strategic privacy. Grow them formally, with manicured shearing. Or, let them do their thing and grow into a pretty, informal focal point.

You'll love the expansive feeling that only occurs in a private yard! Envelop your backyard in fast-growing hedges to screen out an eyesore or nosy neighbor. Order our largest container size to get a jumpstart on the visual impact.

After all, these fast-growing, and dark shiny green plants have been used as hedging plants for generations. You'll achieve a classic, gracious look with ease by using the Amur Privet as a formal, sheared hedge. Create lush outdoor garden rooms or private outdoor dining rooms with a green wall to bring seclusion and privacy, block noise and slow wind into your private nooks! Screen off your pool seating, backyard hot tub, or sunbathing areas to keep prying eyes out.

This is a highly beneficial shrub for the home landscape. It's versatile and hard-working, whether left to grow naturally as a lovely shrub or pruned to fit a particular purpose. This means both formal and informal landscape designs benefit from these great hedging plants! Amur North Privet features new leaves that emerge with a purplish tinge and quickly age to shiny green. Include these plants as a wonderful backdrop to a wildlife garden.

You'll be thrilled to see butterflies and pollinators swarming the delicate white flowers. Following the flowers, small dark berries develop and the birds love them. Put lots of birdhouses, bird baths, and butterfly houses nearby. Don't forget to include a puddling station for butterflies!

Front yard landscapes benefit from these lush plants as foundation accents or backdrops to landscaping beds. Or divide your home's front yard from the sidewalk or a busy street with a fast-growing screening hedge! River Privet are urban environment and pollution tolerant, so they won't mind!

Try trimming these shrubs into short tree-form multistemmed specimen plants or even sheared topiary focal points! You can even try your hand at Espalier and create formal garden walls and backdrops that will drop jaws!

Plant these 2 feet apart on center to create a barrier and for screening. For fuller, faster results, stagger a double row in a zig-zagging planting pattern. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. If you'll be keeping them short, tighten the planting spaced 18 inches apart. You'll love your even and uniform hedge.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

It's incredibly cold hardy, and can thrive in both full sun or some partial shade. Well-drained soil is best, but these are widely adaptable shrubs in any kind of soil type as long as they have good drainage. Water carefully to establish and during periods of drought.

Privet tolerates dry soil once it is established, so get your new installations established successfully, plant with Nature Hills Root Booster for lifelong symbiotic support, and regular moisture access during that first year. Provide a 3-4 inch deep top-dressing of arborist mulch.

Wait to prune until late spring, letting these shrubs flower before pruning, that way your pollinators will be well-fed. If you want to feed the birds in the autumn, then choose to renewal prune every 3-5 years. Remove the older, fatter branches out at the main trunk or from the root zone.

If flowers and fruit are not your concern, prune this deciduous Privet any time of year. Shearing after the first flush of growth and again if needed in mid-summer. When shearing and training your plants into a hedge, always be sure the lowest part of the plant is the widest part. Keep the tops a bit more narrow than the bottom, to encourage foliage all the way to the ground.

If you have an overgrown shrub and want to start over fresh if needed, simply cut all plants down to 2-3 inches tall and allow the plants to re-grow from the roots.
