Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 7-9
The Powderblue Rabbiteye Blueberry (Vaccinium ashei 'Powderblue') is a deciduous shrub that produces delicious, healthy fruit! Sometimes spelled two words, the Powder Blue Blueberry is a Rabbiteye type, so named because the berries are pink before transitioning to their ripe blue. Rabbiteye Blueberries are known for being sweeter, hardier, and typically freeze better while also well-known for their health benefits, vitamins, and antioxidants among other beneficial attributes!
Powder Blue produces delicate white flowers in late spring-early summer and easily brings in pollinators! This is especially helpful, not just for its beauty but because a late bloom helps protect your Blueberry from late freezes. Ripening mid to late season, the berries are large and light blue!
The effect of the clusters of up to 50 pretty berries against the green foliage is enchanting, only contributed to by the powdered look of the berries, as if sprinkled with fairy dust as they await the excitement of the harvest. Foliage hues of red and yellow in fall round out the ornamental display of this exceptional Blueberry bush.
Powderblue is a southern rabbiteye cultivar that was released jointly by North Carolina State University and the USDA -ARS in 1978. Growing throughout USDA planting zones 7-9, these are heat and humidity-tolerant! Not self-fertile, Powderblue should be planted with a pollinator plant, try an Alapaha, Brightwell, Tifblue, and Ocklockonee
Planting and Application:
Plant several Blueberry bushes for an eye-catching flowering ornamental that doubles as an edible hedge along your home's foundation, or even just a couple of varieties to partake in its amazing healthy, antioxidant-rich fruit! Mix and match with one or more of Powderblues pollinizers for a pretty and extended harvest of luscious fruit!
Powderblue is a deciduous shrub with an upright nature and is quite hardy overall. Cross-pollination will give you the best crop, so plant it with other Blueberry Bushes for optimal performance. Plant groups and rows in orchards of other Rabbiteye varieties to enjoy a huge harvest all growing season long! Prune your Blueberry small for space-saving container gardening.
