Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

How to Use Plump & Plentiful™ Purple Giant Beautyberry in the Landscape
In a tiny space, use a single specimen to draw the eye of all your visitors. Grow in the ground, or as a "Thriller" in a chic container.
Once you see the berry display, you'll definitely want more than one! In a larger area, Purple Giant Beautyberry can be used as a floriferous informal hedge.
Plant them 30 inches apart on center and the plants will grow together and touch. They do well in full sun, but tolerate light shade.
Use them on the sunny side of mature trees. They perform very well as an understory plant with at least four hours of direct sunlight a day.
In a sunny area, let them shine in a background role for perennials and smaller shrubs. Let their showy berries take center stage in autumn!
Place them behind patio seating for an easy-breezy sense of privacy. Use a hedge, or create a massed planting with staggered rows two or three shrubs deep.
Use them near a garden gate to amplify the experience of entry. Or, create a garden moment with a short allèe planted on either side of a woodland garden path.
Purple Giant Beautyberry is a must-have in a modern cutting garden. We offer so many plants that work well in a vase, including Hydrangeas. Roses and Red Twigged Dogwoods.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Give them at least four hours of sunshine and well-drained soil. Get the best flowering and fruiting with more sunshine, if you have it.
Add Nature Hills Root Booster to your order to gain support for the tiny feeder roots in their quest for water and micronutrients. Time-tested ingredients work in a symbiotic fashion over the entire life of your Beautyberry.
Provide a regular schedule of water keeps your plants healthy and happy. The soil should be moist, but not soaking wet.
Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over their root system. Please pull the mulch back away from touching the stems.
They bloom on new wood, so prune Plump & Plentiful Purple Giant Beautyberry in early spring. In Zone 5 and 6, trim the branches back down to twelve inches to produce well-fruited stems for cutting.
Plump & Plentiful™ Purple Giant Beautyberry makes a magnificent accent for your Fall Garden. Place your order today!
