Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 10-11
Like bringing a bit of the tropics into your home! Xanadu Philodendron (Philodendron x Winterbourn 'XANADU') is a dramatically cut leaf tropical beauty with distinctly lobed large leaves that are satiny, leathery and smooth. Strong stems either cascade and sprawl in large pots or garden beds. Unlike other Philodendrons that are also climbing plants, Xanadu instead forms big, neatly tiered clumps.
Philodendrons have heart-shaped leaves that can grow to huge dimensions, reaching nearly 3-feet, with an appearance reminiscent of something you'd see in a rainforest. The strong stems reach upwards as the large leaves form a fountain from the center, up and out. The older the leaves are, the more ornate and pronounced the lobes and texture becomes!
Xanadu keeps a compact and neat appearance with little work from you. Provide a location out of the strong wind and direct sun to keep the leaves looking their best. But this variety does need more bright light than the average Philodendron, however direct sunlight will blanch the leaves. !
Planting and Application:
Place one of these impressive tropical plants indoors where it will have space to climb and you can enjoy watching it grow! It's like bringing a bit of the tropics into your home. Come summer, many gardeners bring these outdoors to add an exotic flair to their patio and seating areas. Warmer climates can use these year-round in their mixed plantings around their landscape or add some staycation vibes to their pool and porch!
Xanadu can be planted as a statement planting in long rows, zigzagging formal plantings, or in groupings to really show off their style! Equally sharing the spotlight, these add structure and formality to a mixed planting with banana plants and Palms. Try playing with the textured coarse leaves against other finer textures and bold colors like Ginger, Hibiscus and spiky Dracena, or try a mixed Philodendron planting to start your own collection of these great fuss-free tropicals!
- Huge Tropical Green Leaves
- Upright Mounding Fountain Growth

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Philodendron is a vigorous grower and easy to care for. It prefers humidity but will tolerate some dry conditions as long as they have moderately moist soil. There are no pest or disease concerns and are very easygoing for even the novice gardener! Both indoors and out, they need bright yet indirect sunlight. Too little and they become leggy, and too much the leaves are bleached. Prune off any yellowing or badly damaged leaves close to the stem cleanly when needed. Provide regular fertilizer and well-draining soil for best results.
Young, more juvenile plants may not yet exhibit the deeply lobed leaves but with age the plant will begin to develop the lobed leaves if grown in bright indirect light.
- Bright Indirect Light
- Moderate Moisture & Loves Humidity
- Indoor or Outdoor Tropical Evergreen
- Prune As Needed
