Growing Zones 6-11
Variegated Periwinkle (Vinca major 'Variegata') is a wonderful variegated foliage perennial that is a trailing vine that grows green with white-edged leaves. Variegated Vinca vine will not climb surfaces, can be easily woven and trained upon a trellis or other structure if desired, or allow it to expand out in all directions.
Vinca is an evergreen perennial in warm climates that displays a profusion of lilac-blue flowers in early spring. Butterflies adore these trumpet-shaped blossoms! And you'll enjoy these blooms returning through the summer and into fall! With a creeping habit, Vinca forms dense mats that cover ground in a gorgeous display. You'll love the play of color between the dark green leaf margins and yellow-green centers.
This Variegated Vinca is a hardy perennial in zones 6-11 and makes an excellent groundcover with excellent version control sun or shade, which makes it very versatile! These charming little vines are relatively carefree and deer resistant.
Planting and Application:
Vinca drapes itself nicely over your combination planters as a spiller. Vinca is a perfect filler that adds interest to any container plant or hanging basket on your porch or patio! This plant is also widely grown and used as an excellent annual spiller plant dripping out of containers all across the country in all zones!
It makes a terrific groundcover for mass planting around and beneath other plants, edging along walkways and a great filler for sun or shaded locations. The creamy white margin and dark green leaves light up the shade on banks and steep slopes too! It roots as it spreads, multiplying on its own, forming a dense groundcover. Plant atop a retaining wall and soften hardscape edges with these cascading, trailing plants!
