Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Don't you love it when something that's already good gets even better? The Pearl Bush has been a garden favorite for generations, but now, the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Snow Day® Surprise PP#21665 (Exochorda x SNOW DAY Surprise 'Niagara') sets the bar even higher!
It is known as a Pearlbush due to the many round buds that appear along the stems, giving it the appearance of being strung with pearls! A spring flowering powerhouse, Snow Day® Surprise puts on quite a fragrant show from April to early summer. The snow-white flowers are large and come on in such profusion you'd think a blizzard had hit your shrub overnight!
This spectacular shrub is easy to grow and grossly underused in the landscape throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8. Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, these deciduous shrubs fill out in lush green foliage for the rest of the growing season.
Planting and Application:
Gorgeous as a spring flowering specimen, and even better when used in groupings and mid-sized hedges, the Snow Day® Surprise will show off brilliantly! Ideal for pollinator gardens, lighting up Moon Gardens, and bringing in all the attention to your foundation hedges, these sun-loving flowering shrubs won't block your windows or clash with your siding color!
Large planters and containers are ideal for these showy shrubs! Sunny porches, patios, and balconies gain privacy and flowering beauty. Snip a few stems for fragrant indoor bouquets too! Hummingbirds will drop by for a visit when you leave the flowers outside to show off!
Use Snow Day® Surprise to cover a bank, fill up a border, or spill out of a planter. It also looks beautiful near the edge of a pond. Wherever Surprise Pearlbush goes it will be a crowd-pleaser!
- Brilliant White Pearl-Like Buds
- Fragrant Pure White Flowers All Spring Til Summer
- Soft Green Foliage
- Pollinator-Friendly & Attracts Hummingbirds
- Mid-Sized Hedges, Container Accents, Specimens & Foundation Plants
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Flowering best in the full sun, Pearlbush is widely adaptable in any type of well-drained soil when given regular, moderate moisture access. Flowering on old wood, prune your Pearlbush as soon as the flowers fade. All plants grow best in 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to protect their roots.
In some situations, Pearlbush can be invasive, but Snow Day® is non-invasive but can sometimes create suckers and offshoots that can be easily contained by yearly pruning or mowing around the base of the shrub. These plants respond well to renewal pruning to keep a more natural form.
- Full Sun Shrubs
- Any Well-Drained Soil Type
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Prune After Flowers Fade
- Low-Maintenance & Deer Resistant
We know that you will love this Proven Winners® Snow Day® Surprise Pearl Bush. It is a classic in the American garden and we hope that you add one to yours today! Order now at NatureHills.com!
