Growing Zones 3-7
Patty's Plum Poppy (Papaver 'Patty's Plum') is a gorgeous crepe-papery blossom with ruffle delicate petals and a fringed array of pinkish purple stamen in the center of each deep rose pink to plum-colored blossom! Each papery petal has a dark burgundy splotch at the base for an incredible accent.
Held aloft on long, slender stems and fuzzy drooping buds, that stands atop a mound of lovely silvery-green foliage that is toothy and rough and resembles thistles without the spines! The heavily saturated petals are perfect landing pads for bees and butterflies!
These flowers appear in late spring to early summer and are gorgeous dainty blooms that have a high impact on the garden and the floral arrangement as a cut flower focal point. These airy blooms are very cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 7 and seem to drift on the slightest breeze to bring motion to the garden.
Planting and Application:
Plant a few Patty's Plum in your perennial bed, along a border or even a few in containers where their bright, airy presence can be shown to their full advantage. Pollinator and cutting gardens gain a double-duty bloom while cottage and perennial gardens gain an airy and graceful addition!
Oriental Poppy blooms are always beautiful all growing season long. Even when the flowers have faded, the seed heads can be dried and used in a variety of crafts and flower arrangements! Use the unique greenery as edging along garden beds, add to wildflower gardens and in large porch and patio planters mixed among other perennials so the other plants can protect the foliage when the sun increases in intensity later in the summer.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant these Oriental Poppies are quite hardy, able to adapt to a variety of soils and can even survive some drought conditions once established. Growing 24-30 inches tall when in flower, and the mounds spread to 18-24 inches wide. Spread a 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the soil surface and provide moderate, regular moisture all growing season.
Deadhead the blooms as soon as they fade or at least before they go to seed if you are collecting them for crafts and dried bouquets. If they are planted in an area that you don’t mind them spreading by seed, leave the seedheads up for fall and winter interest! Clean the mounds as soon as they go dormant, this may be in the summer once the heat kicks in or in late autumn after a frost.
