Can't wait for the incredible, sweet taste of blueberries in springtime? Plant the early season O'Neal Blueberry (Vaccinium x 'O'Neal') in your Edible Landscape.

You'll have early berries with an out-of-this-world flavor. No wonder O'Neal berries are a premium selection at Farmers Markets!

High levels of natural fruit sugar and beneficial antioxidants make these indigo-blue berries a total powerhouse. You'll get a huge health boost with a big smile on your face.

Beyond their delicious fruit...these Southern Highbush "blues" remain semi-evergreen in warmer climates. You'll appreciate O'Neal's handsome good looks all year-long.

Enjoy the white, bell-shaped spring blooms. They are especially delightful, because you know they'll develop into those tasty berries you love so much!

O'Neal has thick, sturdy stems that color up red. They make an architectural accent to your berry patch.

Fine-textured foliage is gray-green. This variety adds a sophisticated counterpoint to the bushier Sunshine Blue or large-leafed Misty.

O'Neil's dark-blue berry clusters are easy to pick. Although O'Neal is a self-pollinating plant, you'll get bigger yields (up to 10 pounds of fruit per plant!) with partners nearby.

Add Misty, Jubilee and Jewel to your Nature Hills order for a fantastic variety. It's important to know that O'Neal is a great pollinizer partner for other Southern Highbush varieties.

Use the large, sweet berries for a fresh snack. Their exceptional flavor adds a gourmet touch to mixed green salads with sliced almonds.

Fanciful layered yogurt parfaits make a satisfying dessert. And blueberry sauce takes only minutes, but adds a lot of flavor to everything from pancakes to chicken wings!

It only takes a handful to turn you into a life-long convert.

Baby your O'Neals. They are so worth it!

O'Neal Blueberries boost the impact of your autumn landscape as the leaves turn a fiery red. Take advantage of their fall foliage display by planting them in front of mature evergreen trees.

Order commercial-grade plant material from Nature Hills. O'Neal is a special "Blue" that delivers the delectable harvest you crave.

How to Use O'Neal Blueberry in the Landscape

Rich, sweet berries that start early and keep on coming for several weeks. Tuck O'Neal near your kitchen door, if you can.

They make a charming display with petite, cool-toned summer foliage that fires up to intense red as the nights get colder.

Open and airy, O'Neal offers a fetching sculptural display in your landscape. Use it as a beautiful contrast to other shrubs and fruiting bushes.

With substantial, red-pigmented stems, small leaves and large clusters of dark-blue berries, O'Neal makes a big statement.

Use these excellent pollinizers at either end of a mixed Blueberry hedge. You'll get bigger yields and an eye-catching garden feature.

Space them four to six feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next and mulch between with pine straw or pine bark.

Blueberries look magnificent in front of rougher-textured plants. Place them in the foreground of a mixed shrub border, and let their unique beauty shine.

O'Neal easily holds its own with Azaleas and Rhododendrons. They are good partners, as both require acidic soils with a pH between 4.5 to 5.5.

If your soil is alkaline, or you are renting, grow your bushes in containers or grow bags. Harvest your gourmet treats on your balcony.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Blueberries require acidic soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5 at their root zone. It's best to test your soil before you plant in the ground.

Work to lower pH at the root zone with sulfur, and organic amendments like peat moss. It will take time to change your soil pH. Testing the soil regularly, so you won't wind up overdoing it!

If your pH is well outside their range, grow them in containers. Alkaline soil usually means alkaline tap water, too. Use neutral pH rainwater to water your blueberry bushes.

In the warmest climates, give them morning sun and afternoon shade. They need at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Fun sun is fine if the summers are cooler.

Apply consistent weekly moisture, especially during fruit production. Use pine straw or bark as mulch in a three-inch layer; even on container-grown plants.

Young stems are the most productive. Every few years in early spring, remove a few of the woodiest, thickest stems. This is an easy way to rejuvenate your O'Neals to encourage plenty of sweet berries.

People adore their flavor. No wonder this variety is in such high demand. Place your order for O'Neal Blueberry today!
