Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant

Pretty concentric pearlescent petals! The Nuccio's Pearl Camellia (Camellia japonica 'Nuccio's Pearl') will have lovers of order and symmetry falling over themselves to get their hands on this flowering broad-leaf evergreen shrub! Blushing pink pointed buds spiral out into the fullest pearl pink blooms you'll ever see! Radiant and fragrant, these lovely plants bloom when your garden needs a burst of pastel color - in the late winter and early spring months!
Bees and butterflies adore Nuccio's Pearl and you will be tickled pink watching them wriggle between the layer upon layer of neatly arranged petals! The warm pink blush blend of double blooms fades ombre-style into a white center. Shining against the backdrop of glossy green leaves!
Camellia are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 8 to 10 and are easy-to-grow broadleaved evergreens reaching about 6-8 feet in height and width. Not the fastest growing shrubs, Camellias prefer to take their time, but they're in it for the long haul. It takes time to produce those incredibly detailed blossoms after all! Never be concerned about slow-growing shrubs, it just means less maintenance!
Planting and Application:
Plant this shining accent and garden focal point as a fragrant pinnacle in your front landscaping berm, or to soften the corner of your home's foundation plantings! The steady evergreen foliage looks great year-round, and with pruning can be the foundation planting itself! Plant a fragrant accent right by your front door to welcome you home with the sweet wafting perfume!
Nuccio's Pearl is a bushy rounded shrub, but with a little effort and pruning, you can transform it into a lovely small accent tree with a multi-stemmed trunk and rounded canopy! Underplant with flowering groundcovers for a lovely spectacle that will bump up the curb appeal of your home!
Pair Camellias with other fragrant shrubs like Gardenia, Roses, and Fragrant Tea Olive to create a private and screened-off getaway for reading and relaxing! Creating outdoor rooms with rows of shrubbery envelops you in tranquil peace and calm! Create lovely natural hedges and mixed shrub borders with these late-season flowering ornamentals for easy property division that the neighbors won't mind!
No yard? No problem! Plant your Camellia in a large tub or planter with adequate drainage for a porch and patio specimen everyone will want to sit close to! Snip a few branches and bring the fragrance indoors or surprise a loved one with a bouquet of scented blooms! Don't want to take entire stems? Simply float a few of these blooms in a bubble bowl for a perfume bedside table or in your bistro coffee nook!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Caring for Camellias is not difficult! They prefer acidic soils and soils that are gorged with enriched compost and rich humus. For best results, provide afternoon shade or dappled partial sun locations, but these flowering shrubs will grow in full shade (but you'll see fewer blossoms). Provide moderate yet regular moisture, and supplemental moisture during drought to keep them looking their best.
Once established, Camellias can handle drought at times, but be sure to add a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch, especially for younger plants to provide root shading and keep them cool as a cucumber! Any pruning for size control and shaping should be done after the flowers fade and new growth begins in the spring.
In areas with high deer pressure, it's recommended to spray your plant with deer repellant from day one and keep spraying according to product directions to train the deer in your area to avoid this plant entirely!
