Best in neutral to slightly alkaline pH soil, water just enough to remain consistently moist when establishing, then only water in times of heat and drought.

Plant in most any type of well-drained soil with average fertility. Mulch the area well to retain more moisture consistency and insulate the roots from both heat and cold.
