Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The Nelly Tardivier Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Nelly Tardivier') is not just another pretty face! This Iris is drop-dead gorgeous. It's dressed to impress and ready to steal the show. It is no wonder this breathtaking Iris is named after Nelly Tardivier, the former Tuileries Garden director of the Louvre in France

What makes this diva's standards and falls more stunning than so many other Iris varieties? This joyous Iris looks dressed for a gala!

Its bloom form is not only well balanced, but each fall flutters outward and every petal is delightfully curled and ruffled. And we haven't even mentioned its striking colors, yet. The Nelly Tardivier Iris has intense violet-purple standards (that take on gray tones at times) with falls that feature deep magenta veins that cascade over pinkish burgundy and fade to copper at the margins.

Hardy perennial rhizomes throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 9, these Tall Bearded Iris reach 34 inches in height and spread just 12 - 18 inches wide! But when allowed, they will naturalize gradually to fill small sunny locations.

Planting and Application:

The Nelly Tardivier will electrify your garden in mid-to-late spring, bringing in all the Butterflies and bees and providing you with vibrant cut flower bouquets that will inspire the artist within you! It also will delight and captivate as a show-stopper in your mixed perennial border, and Cottage garden!

Create a backdrop to your garden benches, around your bistro breakfast chairs, or around the mailbox to highlight your home! It is truly a pleasure to behold as an addition to the garden. It makes a splash as a border or as a backdrop!

Rock gardens are where Bearded Irises excel due to their drought resistance and their low-maintenance nature. Their naturalizing and low-maintenance nature makes them ideal for en masse plantings! In more intimate settings, these showy Iris look fantastic in the container garden, balcony planter box, or on a front porch mixed planter!

  • Ruffled Pinkish-Copper Accents & Gold Beards

  • A Unique Spring-Blooming Cut Flower!
  • Great Container Thriller
  • Dramatic Color For Garden Beds, Borders, En Masse & Specimens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

It produces its best blooms in full to partial sun and likes to keep its feet relatively dry. When planting your Nelly Tardivier Iris this fall, or transplanting your rhizomes after being divided, choose a location that is well-drained with moderate moisture access. Add a layer of arborist mulch for moisture retention, insulation, and winter protection.

Divide every few years and it's recommended you deadhead after the flowers fade. Trim all the foliage back in the autumn once it yellows and cover the rhizomes loosely with compost, mulch, or evergreen boughs for the winter. Deer, Rabbits, and Squirrels seldom eat these perennials or their rhizomes.

Information About Bareroot Iris

Bareroot Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.

Be sure to set your Iris up for success by planting it in the fall in a shallow hole with a hill of soil at its center. Place the rhizome on the mound and bury it with enough soil to leave the top of the rhizome exposed. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover it in the spring.

  • Full Sun & Some Shade In The Afternoon
  • Easy Care In Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Low Maintenance -Deadhead In Spring & Prune Back After Foliage Yellows
  • Deer, Rabbit & Squirrel-Resistant

The Nelly Tardivier Tall Bearded Iris offers unique elegance that towers above the garden bed. This makes it an excellent choice for a mid or back border. Make a bold statement by planting a group of these in your cottage garden or spring bulb bed.
