Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Looking up at the moon's speckled surface is surely one of the most magnificent ways to pass the night. However, each morning the new day hides its glory. Now imagine being able to conjure up the moon at any time of the day! With the introduction of Lava Lamp Moonrock® Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Kolmakilima'), you absolutely can!
Moonrock® Panicle Hydrangea has large panicles made up of many small florets. However, unlike other Hydrangeas, these blooms burst forth each growing season as long, pointed lime green panicles that mature from the bottom up. Each green panicle opens to white until all florets open.
Then the florets age to pink before eventually turning tan for the entire winter. If you were to observe the flower at its peak bloom, it would look a lot like the dappled surface of the moon!
Rising above each stem, the showy blooms last all summer. In autumn, they dry to create lovely winter interest in the fall and winter, the sturdy stems make these wonderful cut flowers and dried floral decor both fresh and dried!
As if the blossoms weren't beautiful enough on their own, they float atop beds of luscious deep green leaves. If you can tear your eyes away from the stunning floral spectacle, you'll see that the leaves are deeply veined, which gives them a nice textured look. The perfect compliment to the cream and lime-colored petals.
While you and your neighbors are marveling at Moonrock®, your local pollinators will be appreciating it as well! Butterflies will flutter about your summer garden waiting for their turn to check out this glorious plant.
How to Use Lava Lamp Moonrock® Panicle Hydrangea In The Landscape
The Moonrock® Hydrangea has sturdy stems and its mid-sized form makes Moonrock® magnificent for patios in a container, or as an accent to your backyard garden. Everywhere this goes, it is sure to elevate your outdoor appeal!
The creamy blooms emerging with an intense lime-green shock of color look brilliant as a border specimen, an outstanding low screen or hedge, or as formal or modern planting. Glowing elegantly in a Moon or Night Garden of course!
Just one at the corner of your garden's bed or foundation planting anchors your landscape, or plant one to soften the corner of a building. Its size and color make it a great specimen plant in mixed-shrub borders. You are sure to dig this planting with an intense lime green hue!
No matter the style of your outdoor space, from classic and informal, to funky, and elegant, one thing is for sure, you'll want to plant it somewhere you can admire it all season long!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Moonrock® Hydrangeas are often revered for how extremely easy it is to take care of. Once they're planted, all they require is a thorough watering and then you can sit back, relax, and watch them flourish! Planting and taking care of this beauty is oh-so simple! Moonrock® thrives in either full sun area!
Just make sure the soil it's planted in is well-draining, and it has consistent moisture during the hot summer months, and it'll do just fine!
Each spring before new growth appears, Moonrock® should be trimmed to remove old blooms and reduce the size, while at the same time increasing uniformity by reducing the overall size by about one-third. This simple, once-a-year maintenance keeps your plant the size you like with maximum bloom potential.
Lava Lamp Moonrock® is one of the most unique Hydrangeas on the market today. It's just waiting to bring a little moonlight magic to your garden with its cream and faded lime blooms. Don't wait, order your Moonrock® Panicle Hydrangea from Nature Hills Nursery today!
