Perennial Gaillardia plants maintain vigorous growth if planted in medium, well-drained soils in full sun. It tolerates some dry soils, but it does not do well in heavy clay soils. Preferring regular moisture, once established they become very drought resistant. Gaillardia self-sows, so deadhead after the blooms fade is recommended (unless you don't mind them spreading themselves about the garden, or snipping plenty for your bouquets all summer long), to encourage new blooms in profusion!
