Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

You'll need your sunglasses! Mauna Loa Daylilies (Hemerocallis 'Mauna Loa') can be best described as hot lava-orange! This description isn't just about their color, either. They are so hot that you can spot them from across the garden.
As striking as they are from a distance, they are even more beautiful close-up! The color is difficult to put into words. Here are a few descriptions from people who have tried:
"Deep orange with undertones of crimson-red that shines through."
"Neon orange with a hint of coral."
"All of the colors of a marigold blended together."
"Knock-your-socks-off tropical!"
"Pictures don't do it justice."
No matter how you describe it, you and your neighbors are bound to love it!
Coloring up in early to mid-season, this perennial tetraploid is a super-reliable bloomer, and rebloomer, in gardens since 1976! So you know that it has stood the test of time and should also thrive in your USDA growing zones 3 to 9 garden. The foliage can remain semi-evergreen through mild winters but are reliable perennials in cooler climates.
Mauna Loa clocks in at almost two feet tall with flowers that have 5" or larger, slightly ruffled petals. Even without the stunning coloration, these are statement Daylilies in the landscape! Need more? These pollinator and hummingbird-friendly blooms are fragrant too! So fill your garden with brilliance, the fluttering of wings, and fill your vases indoors!
Planting and Application:
Fill the landscape in orange, or simply plant a beacon as a specimen plant among the mixed Perennial garden or a fiery Cottage border! Brilliant focal points by the mailbox or in a large planter around the pool or entertainment seating area, Daylilies stand up to the sun and Mauna Loa embodies it!
One display garden we know has them planted on the slope of a high hill and despite the literally hundreds of dazzling multi-hued Daylilies surrounding them, visitors to the garden most often ask, "What is that orange one up there on that hill?"
Plant en masse for the best display and to cover eroding hillsides or hard-to-mow slopes! These are tough enough for the hell strip along the road, sidewalk, Rock Garden, and driveway, Daylilies are highly recommended on xeriscaping and fire-scaping plans!
- Fantastic Deep Rich Orange Color
- Wonderful Texture & Form
- Grassy Arching Green Foliage
- Incredible Pollinator Flowers & Vibrant Cut Flowers
- Container Thrillers, Specimens, Accents, Edging & En Masse
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Daylilies are resilient perennials that will live for a long time and are tolerant to both cold and drought! The plant prefers full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight for the best performance. Daylilies grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions once established. Add a 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!
Spent blooms can be deadheaded, then remove entire stems once all the buds are done to keep the plants reblooming. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Every 3-5 years, it is recommended you divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.
- Glows in Full Sun
- Moderate Moisture Needs - Low Once Established
- Adaptable in Any Well-Drained Soil
- Prune Late Fall, Deadhead Regularly & Divide Every 3-5 Years
- Drought Tolerant Once Established & Very Durable
- Easy Care & Low Maintenance
Though one Mauna Loa Daylily is more than enough to brighten up a dull garden, trust Nature Hills when we say that you will wish you had ordered a lot more when you see them blooming. We get that a lot!
