The Page Mandarin Tree (Citrus reticulata 'Page') is a delicious cross between a Minneola Tangelo and Clementine Mandarin. This fruit, which resembles a small, sweet orange, is prized for its early ripening and high-quality flavor.
Page’s round fruit ripens to a deep orange with a thin rind that’s easy to peel. The tree's evergreen leaves are shiny, dark green and leathery and really set off the fruit and the gleaming white blossoms! With that classic Citrus flower fragrance, you and your pollinators will adore these blooms!
Well-known for its long hang time and reported to remain on the tree for as long as four months, many believe the Page to be the finest of all Mandarins. The fact that it ripens early and is small to medium in size also contributes to its popularity!
Planting and Application:
A lovely enough ornamental specimen and accent tree, Page is a good choice to include in your Citrus grove as it will be the most productive in the company of pollinator trees. Good choices to plant alongside it are other Mandarins or Valencia. Use together in groupings or hedgerows that provide shelter, food, fragrance and privacy for you, your pollinators and your backyard birds!
The Page Mandarin makes an excellent container plant since it can be easily pruned to any desired size. If you live in a colder climate and plant them in a container, bring your trees indoors to ride out the winter near a sunny window, where the invigorating citrus scent can brighten your home during the colder months. The evergreen foliage adds a year-round touch for privacy, pin-point shade, and lasting fragrant beauty!
- Prolific, Sweet, Juicy Fruit
- Early Season - Very Long Hang Time
- Lovely Foliage
- Fragrant White Blossoms
- Easy to Peel
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Citrus indoors and out requires at least 6 hours of direct full sunlight a day to do their best. Provide excellent drainage and regular fertilizer but go easy on the watering. Once established they don’t need much moisture and prefer to dry out a bit between waterings.
Protecting Container Citrus From Cold
Although it's famous for growing in warmer regions, it can also thrive in colder areas as long as the tree is brought indoors prior to the first frost of winter.
If you're growing these tropical trees in the ground in the lowest of their favored growing zones, they need to be planted in a sheltered spot to avoid the worst of the chill. If a spot like that is unavailable, then you are better off planting in a large, deep container.
In borderline growing zones, begin slowly acclimating your tree indoors or into a protected location, eventually moving your tree inside in bright indirect sun for the winter if the temperatures in your area ever dip below that 40°F range. In spring, reverse this process and begin acclimating your tree to again be back out in the full sun all summer. This reduces stress and leaf drop.
- Full Sun
- Very Well-Drained Soil & Regular Fertility
- Low Moisture Once Established
- Prefers Slightly Acidic Conditions
- Grow Indoors & Out

Unique History, Complex Flavor, Easy to Love
In 1963, the Page Mandarin was introduced as a sweet orange by P.C. Reece and F.E. Gardener of the US Horticultural Field Station in Orlando, Florida. They recognized the Page Mandarin for its early ripening, high-quality flavor, and the fact that it resembled a small, sweet orange.
But in fact, Page isn't a Mandarin or an Orange. The Page Mandarin is actually a hybrid Tangelo.
The Minneola Tangelo is a cross between a Duncan Grapefruit and a Dancy Mandarin. This means that the Page Mandarin has 25% grapefruit in its lineage. More recent genetic research suggest that the Clementine Mandarin is, in fact, a cross between the 50% mandarin, 25% grapefruit and 25% of an unknown, sweet orange variety.
Known for its long hang time, reported to stay on the tree for up to 4 months, it is very easy to understand why many consider the Page to be the finest of all Mandarins. Its early ripening, long hang time, and small to medium size make it easy to enjoy. But it's the extra fine flavor coming from its complex crossing that makes the Page one of the most flavorful fruits available, no matter what you call it. You'll love the complexity of flavor.
