Today's professional garden designers get plenty of client requests for near effortless landscape plants to achieve a polished, high-end look. And although no plant is truly "plant and forget it", this rugged Liriope comes pretty close.

This gorgeous selection can handle more sunlight than other Liriope...although it still needs a bit of shade to thrive. Silvery Sunproof Liriope (Liriope 'Silvery Sunproof') brings a lovely, soft look with its variegated blade-like foliage held in a fanciful tuft.

The color holds true all season, and may even be an evergreen depending on where you live. Starting in midsummer, purple flower spikes arise above the strappy leaves to delight you and your guests through fall.

Cut some for use indoors in arrangements, or let the local butterflies gather their nectar. Pets may sniff at it, but it's wonderfully pet friendly.

Lilyturf is typically an easy-care plant, but this cultivar takes that to the next level. Silvery Sunproof Liriope is well-known for high resistance to disease, pests and deer pressure.

It's even rated as Firewise on several states lists. Use it near your home to protect the defensible zone around structures on your property from fire.

Over time, it adapts to many soil and environmental conditions, even dry shade. They naturally become more drought tolerant in shade after their roots are established during their first season.

Urbane Silvery Sunproof Liriope is versatile and brings crisp, clean elegance to many areas of your landscape. We recommend you order plenty to use throughout your yard for a coordinated look.

How to Use Silvery Sunproof Liriope in the Landscape

If your space is limited, leverage a vertical planting box to plant a series of these sophisticated silvery plants in a dim corner of your balcony. The arching bi-colored leaves are highly engaging and this effective display will garner many compliments!

Use them as "Filler" around the edge of oversized outdoor planters. They'll make a wonderful contrast to rounded blooms of Hydrangea or larger-leaved Hosta.

For those with long stretches of space to fill, add a double row staggered in a zigzagging planting pattern. Mulch between plants and keep the bed weeded.

For a tight fill, plant the 12 inches apart on center. For a more modern look, expand that spacing to two feet or more and you'll set the ornamental form off to perfection.

Underplant shrubs and tall trees with these as a groundcover. For added interest, why not mix in our other Liriope in a collection?

Keep one in a pot as a "Plant Pet" on a patio table under the Sunbrella. Call it Sir Shaggy, Monkey Grass or Tina...anything that tickles your fancy.

Turn a ho-hum corner of your yard into a destination spot. Side yards are wasted space that can be repurposed into "get-aways" with help from plants; including Liriope for a lush presentation at the lowest layer as a ground cover.

#ProPlantTips for Care

In hardiness Zone 6, they can tolerate more sun than warmers Zones. There, ensure they have a planting site in partial shade, preferring low light in the afternoon.

They do like well-drained soils that don't retain water for long after rainfall or watering. Humus-rich soil is a delight, but they'll make do with just about any kind as long as it doesn't stay wet.

Both urban-tolerant and waterwise...get them off to the best start with Nature Hills Root Booster. Our growers recommend this to support the tiny feeder roots over the life of your landscape investments. For the first year, water carefully on a consistent schedule. Poke your finger into the soil to see how much moisture it has before you water.

Use a layer of mulch over the top of the roots. This keeps them nice and cool, but you'll want to pull it back away from touching the main crown of the plant.

Keep the beautiful foliage fresh with an annual haircut to the ground in very early spring. New growth will emerge from the crown to decorate your new season.
