The Liriope 'Silver Dragon', Liriope spicata 'Silver dragon', is an attractive evergreen perennial that grows 10 to 12 inches tall; has dark green, grass-like leaves that are vertically striped with white vertical striping.
'Silver Dragon' is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring; prune in winter.
The erect flower spikes with pale lavender flowers appear, somewhat hidden, among the leaves in late summer. The flowers often give way to greenish berries in fall.
This 'Silver Dragon' Liriope spreads by underground rhizomes and makes a wonderful groundcover; can be used for erosion control; also plant under tough areas such as shallow rooted trees or along ponds or streams.
The bright variegated leaves make a super edging plant that highlights partially shaded beds; brings a sense of light into darker plantings or woodland gardens too.
'Silver Dragon' can be paired with large-leafed, shade loving varieties like Heuchera, Elephant Ear and Hydrangea to set off the narrow, grass-like foliage!
