Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 4-9
Big dollops of lemon cream confection, the Cone-fections™ Lemon Drop Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'Lemon Drop') will add its unique beauty to your garden beds and borders in the sun! This pure bright yellow Echinacea is fully double and packed with so many petals we won't blame you if you think it's fully triple!
The flowers are puffy balls on top with elegant drooping petals around the base. These are showstoppers in the garden and especially in the vase! Pollinator-friendly, the big pompom centers and backward drooping ray petals are quite the spectacle on their tall strong stems!
The coarse green foliage mounds are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, growing smaller than average up to 18 inches tall and 24 inches wide, but they more than make up for their size with their exaggerated double blooms!
Planting and Application:
These frothy-topped flowers bring the color of sunshine to your perennial border or cutting garden! They combine well with any other flower color in the garden - try them with cool purples, whites, and blues for a classic Cape Cod look or with rich reds, pinks, and oranges for a hot tropical garden.
These perennials are stand-outs for your updated native or prairie-inspired gardens, too! A must-have for the Pollinator border, these repeat late-season flowering plants support butterflies, Hummingbirds, bees, and migrating pollinators!
Pot up these dreamy blooms for your porch or patio conversation pieces and adorn your front porch urns for a showy display! In the garden, these gorgeous blossoms perk up your Cottage and mixed Perennial borders! Tough enough for Rock Gardens and whimsical enough for modern plantings!
- Fully Double Centers With Bright Yellow Flowers
- Strong Stems & Repeat Flowering
- Attracts Hummingbirds, Bees & Butterflies
- Great For Summer & Fall Interest
- Showy Specimens, Mixed Plantings, Hardy & Easy to Grow
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Like all Echinacea, Lemon Drop is a tough and healthy plant that tolerates heat and drought and thrives in well-drained average garden soil - no pampering needed! These herbaceous perennials have the strongest stems in full sun and very well-drained soil. You need good drainage, regular fertility and moderate moisture access to keep those stems from falling flat.
Plant with Nature Hills Root Booster and provide a 3-4-inch layer of arborist mulch to protect and insulate their roots. Keep them Deadheaded and they will bloom all summer and often well into fall! Divide perennial clumps about every 3 to 4 years and prune back the mounds in the early spring.
- Full Sun Perennials
- Moderate Moisture Access
- Any Well-Drained Soil & Regular Fertility
- Prune Early Spring, Deadhead For More Blooms
- Deer Resistant & Drought Tolerant
