One of the most beautiful shade trees available today is the Keith Davey Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis 'Keith Davey'). Since the day it was introduced, it's quickly become one of the most sought-after ornamental shade trees for USDA Growing Zones 6 through 9.

Keith Davey Pistache has a light and airy appearance in the landscape because of its alternate, pinnately compound, 10 to 12 inches long leaves. It features a wonderful rounded canopy with a very uniform branching habit. In spring, you'll enjoy vibrant scarlet red but these blooms won't become messy fruit or seeds.

You'll appreciate the spectacular, bright green foliage as it gives you shade all through the growing season. Once fall comes around, those compound leaves put on a brilliant autumn color display of fiery orange crimson and deep scarlet red, which increase in intensity as the fall progresses!

The Keith Davey is tolerant of urban pollutants and drought tolerant once established. It is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions. It also works well in a lawn and can handle competition from grass. This tree is recommended on many firescaping lists and does well on the Coast. Even fall clean-up is easy, because the long, narrow leaves are easy to collect. For composters, the leaves break down quite quickly and are a great benefit to the compost pile.

Landscape Application:

In the home garden, the Keith Davey Pistache acts like a perfect shade tree. Along with all of the ornamental qualities, it also has a non-aggressive root system. This tree can be planted near walkways, driveways, and patios without any problems.

Another reason Keith Davey is perfect for your patios and paved seating areas, sidewalks, or pavement is that this is a non-fruiting male cloned selection, modern homeowners won't have any messy berries, staining, or seeds to fuss with!

The uniform growth and perfectly straight trunk make quite a statement when used to line a driveway or to highlight a property line. The tree makes a wonderful accent plant as a background tree to provide a break from the hot afternoon sun or to take the heat off of a kitchen window or pool room.

  • Bright Green Airy Compound Leaves
  • Stately Uniform Growth
  • Fruitless/Seedless Male Variety
  • Beautiful Vivid Orange & Red Fall Color
  • Well Behaved Roots
  • Great Shade Trees, Street Trees & Specimens!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Growing best in full sun, the Chinese Pistache is highly adaptable and very easy to grow in most growing conditions as long as they are well-drained and have regular moisture access their first year in the ground. Spread a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the root system. Prune if needed in early spring. Virtually disease and pest-free with little if any pruning necessary, these tree develops into a tidy form almost on their own.

  • Full Sun
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Prune In Early Spring
  • Disease & Pest Resistant
  • Very Low Maintenance Trees

Plant the Keith Davey to get your perfect landscape addition established and then sit back and watch the show! Order today, Nature Hills will run out of this special variety!
