Bright Gold All Year

  • Bright Gold Foliage
  • Responds Well To Pruning
  • Full to Part Shade
  • Compact Growth

The Juniper 'Saybrook Gold', Juniperus chinensis 'Saybrook Gold', is without a doubt the brightest gold Juniper! This Juniper is superior to all gold-tip types on the market, because 'Saybrook Gold' maintains its bright color through all seasons.

Its low, compact profile is ideal for foundation or mass plantings; it makes a wonderfully striking and colorful addition to most any landscape! Create a bright, low hedge or a gleaming focal point in any garden.

This Juniper responds very well to trimming, and you won't have to worry about deer doing it for you. It can be maintained at a variety of heights and widths. 'Saybrook Gold' must be planted in the sun for best color display but it will grow in partial shade at a somewhat slower rate.

The new growth on this plant is soft to the touch, however as it gets older the growth will become quite prickly.

This hardy 'Saybrook Gold' will add color as an accent plant, in rock gardens, for a border, and even do well near a pond.

The Saybrook Gold Juniper is great!

We bought a Saybrook Gold from Nature Hills a couple of years ago because we couldn't find enough of them locally to finish out our planting plan. I can't say enough good things about the Saybrook Gold variety. They've turned out to be the most beautiful of our landscape. A little 10-10-10 slow release fertilizer three times a year and they have done great on a western exposure foundation planting at our central Iowa house. They're also one of the most robust and unfussy of everything we've planted. I don't understand why they've become so hard to find. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star review is the plant size and packaging condition or our Nature Hills internet purchase. What arrived was a tiny plant in a large pot and a total mess of loose potting soil and failed packaging. At least the plant itself, though much smaller than the other locally sourced ones of the same pot size, did fine once planted.

Hi John,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Saybrook Gold Juniper! We’re thrilled to hear that this variety has become a standout beauty in your landscape and that it’s thriving even in a western exposure foundation planting. Your care regimen with the 10-10-10 slow-release fertilizer is spot on, and it’s great to know the plant’s hardiness made such a positive impact for you.

We truly appreciate your honest feedback regarding the plant size and packaging. We understand how important it is to receive a healthy, robust plant and neatly packaged, and we’re sorry that your shipment fell short in those areas. We continuously strive to improve our packaging and handling processes, and your input helps guide changes for a better overall experience. We hope future orders will arrive in far better shape and closer in size to what you expect.

If you’d ever like assistance choosing packing options or have questions about tweaking planting or care tips to get the fullest growth out of future plants, please don’t hesitate to reach out. It sounds like you have a skilled green thumb!
