Everywhere you look, Americans are eating fresher. For many, that means adding edible plants into their yards and on their balcony.

No wonder Edible Landscaping is such a hot buzzword in the Green Industry. Frankly, it's hard to keep inventory of fruiting plants these days.

Boost your food security and enjoy high yields of delicious, healthy berries with low-chill Jewel Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum 'Jewel' PP #11,807).

Widely grown for commercial production, Jewel is a fine choice for the home gardener. Savor a bumper crop of large-sized, light-blue berries.

Love a tangy blueberry? Pick a bit early for a complex mix of fruit sugar and acid that adds a depth of flavor to pies and preserves alike.

Prefer sugary-sweetness? Wait until Jewel berries are fully ripe for a wonderful topping on your morning bowl of oatmeal.

Abundant berry clusters cover these bushy, erect shrubs. Frankly, they've earned their reputation as some of the largest Southern Highbush berries available.

Jewel Blueberry is an attractive landscape shrub, too. From its massive display of pale, bell-shaped blooms in spring to the lush, semi-evergreen foliage; you'll want to use it in high-profile areas.

Upright branches are densely cloaked with elegant foliage. Once the nights start cooling down, the leaves turn a bold mix of red, orange, yellow and purple.

Grow it in the ground, or use in outdoor containers. Grow a single, self-pollinating Jewel or add additional varieties for a larger harvest.

You'll appreciate the head start given to you by our expert team of plantsmen. Order our extremely high-quality Jewel Blueberry bushes today!

How to Use Jewel Blueberry in the Landscape

Incorporate the charming beauty of flowers, fruit and foliage as a backdrop in your Victory Garden. The beneficial pollinators will love it as much as you will!

Create a showy, semi-evergreen privacy screen "with benefits" along your patio. Plant them four to six feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

Small space gardens can add a few Jewel Blueberries, too. Grow in-ground or use in containers.

Blueberries require acidic soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Test your soil before you plant your "Blues" in the ground.

Renting? Alkaline soil with a pH higher than 5.5? Grow your Jewels in containers or grow bags.

Yes, you can amend your soil's pH with sulfur, and organic amendments. It will take time, and you'll want to work down at the root zone level.

Check out the expert advice on our Garden Blog to get the most from your fruiting plants. We've also got a video library on YouTube with more Blueberry how-tos.

Learn how to enjoy a successive harvest, too. You'll get fresh fruit longer with a mid-season and late variety nearby.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Blueberries need at least four hours of direct sunlight a day, with morning sun being the best. They'll perform in either full sun to partial shade.

Ensure your soil is well-drained. Blueberries need consistent weekly moisture, especially during fruit production. Collect neutral pH rainwater to support your Jewel.

However, their roots can't tolerate sitting in wet soil. Improve drainage in a raised bed, or plant in containers with plenty of drainage holes. Elevate the containers on bricks or use clay pot feet.

If you are renting or if your soil is alkaline, grow Jewel in 24-inch containers or grow bags. You can size up over time, if you prefer.

Fill containers with a soil mix designed for ericaceous, acid-loving plants. Mix up to 25 percent peat moss or pathway bark.

Mulch with pine straw or bark to a depth of three inches over the root zone. Then, pull the mulch back six inches from the stems.

Prune in early spring, before the leaves emerge. Trim out the woody, old stems every few years; and leave the young, productive stems in place.

Fertilize with acid-loving plant formulas in early spring. Please follow directions on the label for all garden chemicals.

Relish the joys of homegrown, healthy fruit just steps from your kitchen. Order the productive, delicious and attractive Jewel Blueberry today.
